Oh, Well but Did He Actually Agree?

Amelia gaped in shock, so did her mother-in-law. The duo exchanged glances. Amelia was signaled by her mother-in-law to leave them alone. She did exactly as told knowing Sylvia was good in her grandmother's hands.

"Come here."

Sylvia bobbed her head, climbing back on the bed but before doing that, she had grabbed the plate from the table. "Eat, Granny!"

"Hmm but tell me first, did you overhear our conversation?"

Sylvia bent her head down at her grandmother's question. Could she possibly lie and say that she didn't?

She felt like a fool for even wondering what she just did. She could not lie. Not to her grandmother. That was one thing Sylvia was incapable of doing so she chose the second-best escape. Silence.

"Sly...vie." Her grandmother's energy gave up too soon to continue.

"Granny, shh, eat first." Sylvia held the plate in her hands before making her grandmother sit straight. She had adjusted a couple of pillows behind her back to make it comfortable for her grandmother.

Her grandmother quietly began to eat, not wanting to make Sylvia worry more.

"Granny, I know I said that I do not want to marry but it had nothing to do with Xavier. I assure you that Xavier has not given me a reason not to like him. I trust you. If you think marrying him is right, I shall do so." Sylvia took it as an opportunity to clarify things so that her grandmother did not need to strain herself.

'If this is going to bring you happiness, I shall do so.' Sylvia finished her confession in her mind.

She had agreed without any second thoughts post overhearing her mother and grandmother.

She had heard something in her grandmother's voice that she could not turn a blind eye to. The blend of anguish and desperation had gripped her heart a little too much to stand indifferent to it.

She smiled at her grandmother's hand caressing her hair. That was something that put her at peace almost instantly in a way that it always felt miraculous.

Xavier Walker. The name crossed her mind as she warmly embraced her grandmother.

"Ugh." Sylvia shut the novel that she was reading and put it aside. Xavier had been bugging her all the while.

'How did Xavier agree to marry her without even meeting her?'

Taking off her glasses, she played with its corner. Oh, well but did he actually agree? Considering how often his topic would pop up in their homemade it seemed like he had certainly agreed.

The night was long for Sylvia. Sleep took quite long to come to her that night. The next day was going to be eventful for her.

The next morning, Harry knocked on the door of Sylvia's room before he stepped in.

"Slyvie, I had to change the plan. I had a word with George this morning. Lily and he had been wanting to meet Mom for a long time now so instead of you and Xavier meeting in the restaurant, I called all of them for lunch at our place. I hope thats alright with you?"

Sylvia, who was writing her journal, put it aside. She shook her head, giving her consent.

'Sorry, Princess, I know you do not want this marriage, at least not right now, but I can't help it. Had it not been Mom's health, I would have never done this.

I know what Mom means to you. She wants to see your marriage and I am sure, I am sure that you will never regret this, Slyvie. I know Xavier. Had I not known Xavier, I would never insist so much.'

Harry apologized in his mind, for putting his daughter in that phase of her life a little too early.

Amelia and Lily shared a hug, so did Harry and George.

"It feels like almost ages since we visited, no?" Lily exclaimed as they all settled down on the couch.

"Cons of staying at almost the other end of the town." George shrugged his shoulders.

"Yeah, right. It takes a light year to reach my place from yours, right?" Harry's sarcastic comment had everyone bursting out in fits of laughter.

"Where is Xavier?" Amelia asked, glancing at the door.

"Oh, he was just parking the car. I don't know what is taking him this long," Lily spoke, frowning a bit as she looked at her husband who lifted his hands up in surrender.

"There he came." Harry stood up, as he spotted Xavier entering inside.

Adjusting his blue blazer, Xavier stepped in. Standing 5' 11'' tall, his oblong face appeared quite handsome for the young man that he was.

"Good afternoon, Uncle." He greeted Harry with a warm smile and moved across to greet Amelia before they made him comfortable on the chair that was on the right side of the couch.

His eyes traveled around the neatly decorated hall they sat in. From the corner of his eyes, he was searching for Sylvia who looked nowhere in the sight.

Corners of his lips curved up on their own accord as his gaze caught Sylvia walking in. Clad in a boat neck floral print pink dress, with minimal makeup, she slowly made it to where everyone was seated.

The smile faded from Xavier's face upon coming across her face - her face that was undecipherable.

She politely met his parents but the facade couldn't convince Xavier but he stayed quiet about it.

"I have made arrangements for you two on the terrace. Slyvie, take Xavier to our terrace," Harry informed. The two pairs of parents sitting there exchanged sly smiles at their kids. After all, it had taken a long while of convincing to bring their kids in front of each other.

Finally, the moment arrived they had been waiting for!

Xavier quickly stood up, which earned him a wink from his mother. He shook his head.

Sylvia silently began climbing the staircase and Xavier followed her wordlessly.

George cleared his throat. "Harry, I still think that this is too early for them."

The room fell in the unsure silence until Amelia spoke up. "A mother's intuition says that probably this is the right time."

"I agree. I love Sylvia. I have no doubt about her being my daughter-in-law." Lily backed her up.

George hummed. "I understand your sentiments, Ladies, but the only opinions that should be considered here are of Sylvia and Xavier's."

"I bet today is going to be memorable for Xavier." Lily looked at her husband, a playful smile playing over her lips as she took in George's 'what do you mean' face.
