Hell Hole

"Hey Dionysus. Can I get an another beer please."

He noded and pured me one.

I took a big sip from it and turned around while leaning against the bar counter.

The pub was quite full today and the sounds of quiet voices and glass clinking together filled the room.

The interior had definitely seen better days but the wooden panels and soft yellow light gave it a rusty charm that was inviting.

Hell isn't that bad when you ignore the fire, top much advertisement and ofcourse the long lines you had to wait in to get anywhere because it was so overcrowded down here.

While letting my eyes roam around the room I saw a few familiar faces but either I didn't want to talk to them or they seemed already in conversations with other people.

Why do people even want to be around each other? I thought to myself while drinking my beer.

There was only a handful of beings that I even liked but even those got on my nerves if I had to spend too much time with them.

It was really annoying how easy it seemed for most people to interact with each other. A part of me wished that I could do it too but my anxiety and cowardness always got on the way of trying to be more social.

That's why you stopped trying. I reminded myself.

I was deep in my thoughts when I noticed someone sitting down on the barstool next to me.

It took me a moment to realize who it was but when I did I frowned.

Without even looking at me he asked "Am I that repulsive that you have to pull such a face?"

I rolled my eyes.

"No but I had just excepted that I will probably be alone tonight and now you come here to bother me."

He shock his head and turned towards me.

"Well with that attitude it's no wonder you don't have friends."

"I have friends. You asshole." I mumbled and took the last sip of my beer.

"Oh really? Who beside John and me?"

He chuckled and ordered another round.

"Okay fine I don't have any good friends beside John.... and you are more like a nuisance than anything else."

"Oh my dear. How harsh of you to call me that." He said with an overextended expression.

We looked at each other and started to laugh.

"Well anyways how have you been?"

I sighed. "Same as always."

"You know that I can get you a better job here in hell right?"

"Yes but I already told you that I would rather die a second time than become a demon."

He gave me a look that I couldn't really determine. Then he cleared his throat.

"Okay... and what about the other thing I asked you about?"

I was confused for a moment on what he meant but then I noticed the slight blush on his cheeks.

It took me a few minutes to think about an answer.

"Lu I.... I like you but ..."

"Just not the same way I like you. I get it." He said with a heavy sigh.

"Yeah. Besides that I don't even know why anybody for that matter would ever like me in that kind of way. I mean look at me.... I'm.... me.... "

He looked me deep in the eyes.

"Dave seriously? I know you don't have much self confidence but you can't really think that that is true."

I hang my head in defeat and stared at the glass in front of me.

"Yes I do. I know that I'm not really much to look at and my personality is as boring as watching paint dry. So..."

Lu huffed. "That's bull shit! You only look bad because you don't sleep enough and you are too stressed that's all and when it comes to your personality it's definitely not boring it's actually quite the opposite in my opinion. The only real problem is that you just don't see it."

I rolled my eyes.

Yeah he definitely breathed in too much brimstone again.

"Or maybe you got a really strange taste in people?" I said with a smile.

"Yes but that's not the point. The point here is that other people, well at least those who try, see more in you then what you are able to see when you look in the mirror."

"Well if you say so..."

I looked at the clock on my phone and noticed that it had gotten already quite late.

"Hey Lucifer I really would love to continue our little discussion but I have to go."

I put a few bucks on the counter and started to leave when I felt Lu wrapping his arms around my shoulders.

"I really like you Dave. So please if you ever feel down come to me and we talk about it." He squeezed me lightly and than whispered in my ear. "By the way baby, your ass is definitely a ten out of ten."

All I could manage was an annoyed groan and then elbowed him in the stomach and stormed off.

He really is the fucking worst!
