In a small, forest village in the long-subjugated nation of Lumierè, a sacred tradition had long been upheld. When someone became of age, they would learn of their destiny from the Futureseer - a woman, worshipped almost like a deity, who had the power to peer into people's futures - a power that was passed onto her descendants, so their tradition could continue long into the future.

That village became known as the Village of Destinies.

Of Heroes & Royals is the tale of a young girl from that village named Alice. The journey she and her friends embark on, their growth to become the people they must be to face their futures, the sacrifices they must make, and how their destinies, as well as those of everyone around them intertwine.

And in the end, the question must be asked... is knowing your life's path a blessing, or a curse? Is anything truly preordained?

Of Heroes and Royals

(Originally released as "Chapter 1 Footnotes" at a time when I was unfamiliar with the Webnovel platform and was unaware of the Author's Thought feature. I recommend reading Chapter 1 first before reading this.)


Hello! Thank you for reading the first chapter of my webnovel, Of Heroes and Royals. I'm really excited about this project. I've been working on larger scale story ideas for the past 5 years or so, but never ended up releasing anything. So in the end, I decided I would combine the parts I enjoyed the most from all of those scrapped ideas, stop worrying too much, and just release something - it was from this that the idea for Of Heroes and Royals was born.


The four main characters - Alice, Apollo, Ciela, and Naois - are actually pretty much ripped straight from my first ever idea, just under different names. Alice originated from a character named Sina, whose name I may have stolen for use elsewhere. Saying that, she likely has parts of some of my other scrapped protagonists within her, too. Apollo is based on a character named Erval, who I'm proud to say I finally gave a much better name (I mean, seriously, past me, what were you thinking?). Ciela is based on a character named Kinana, though I've changed her character be a lot more confident - Kinana was a character plagued with anxieties in that story, you see, but I'd like to go a different route with her character this time. Finally, Naois is based on a character I never named, but spent a lot of time thinking about - whose story I regret not being able to tell.


I hope you'll look forward to seeing more of these characters as the story progresses. Possibly moreso than any other character I've come up with, these four are very near and dear to my heart.


I hope you'll look forward to the story itself, too. I have a lot of plans on where to take it, and am excited to keep expanding this world. In the first chapter, I mostly focused on the main characters, with the only fantasy element introduced and expanded upon being the Futureseer's ability. I'm hoping to show you more of the fantasy elements that exist within this world soon. I think that'll keep things exciting.


As the story continues, I'd like to continue upping the quality of the content released, such as having art for volume covers, supplementary art within chapters, and releasing some form of bonus chapters, but we'll have to see how it goes.


I'm unsure of if I will write a footnote like this after every chapter, but I wanted to with this being the very first. When I first decided to write this footnote, I wanted to end it with profiles of our main characters - something I'd like to keep doing as more characters are introduced. However, I realised for me to do that in the way I'd like, something else must be introduced first - so I'm afraid I will have to ask you to wait.
