At the Entrance

Though she was someone with a lot of stamina and was used to run for a long distance, running among the crowd at the festivity was not an easy task.

Yu Feng placed both hands on her knees as she tried to catch up with her breath. Once she had rested enough, Yu Feng raised up her head to look at the watchtower in front of her.

There were a lot of guards lining outside the tower and each of them had a fierce look on their face. With such an intimidating look, anyone who turned to look at them would cower.

Yu Feng was the same.

If it was not for this important task, she would not attempt to get close to the Imperial Guards. Moreover, Yu Feng was a street thief and because of that, she would rather avoid those guards than making contact with them.

Picking up her pace, Yu Feng finally arrived in front of the watchtower entrance. At this time, the guards were lining up alongside a plain-looking palanquin. The guards were scanning their surroundings with a fierce look on their faces. Yu Feng thought that if she attempted to run into the watchtower at this time, those guards are going to bark at her.

Suddenly, a very pretty woman came out of the entrance. The woman stopped to speak something to the person behind her before she climbed up the palanquin. Within seconds, the palanquin disappeared from her eyesight.

Yu Feng scoffed at this situation.

Previously, she had to push around the people to pass through the crowd. But the woman in the palanquin did not have to face the same difficulties. With the fierce guard pushing through the crowd with their bulky physique, the palanquin was able to get through the crowd safely.

Yu Feng watched everything in front of her with a dazed expression. It was a scene that was so familiar to her in the past and seeing everything again, Yu Feng could not help but take a second look.

"What are you doing here?"

Yu Feng snapped out of her trance turned. Suddenly, there was a burly guard standing in front of her and Yu Feng could not help but shrink at the man's intimidating gaze.

"Go away. This is not the place where you supposed to be." The guard gave a look over at Yu Feng.

At this time, Yu Feng was still hiding her face under that clothes. Seeing that there was a suspicious person in front of him, the guard could not help but be a little more vigilant.

The Emperor and the member of the Imperial Family were in the watchtower. If anyone sneaked into the watchtower and harm them, it would be bad for him and his colleagues.

Yu Feng opened her lips to speak but stopped herself upon recognizing the guard as one of those who were working under that bad man. Seeing the guard in front of her, Yu Feng became hesitant.

The order to have her kill on sight was still valid. She did not know how she should tell the guard that she needed to enter the watchtower to deliver the message. She was afraid that the man would kill her the moment he saw her face and she will not have the chance to open her mouth.

Slowly, Yu Feng turned around and wanted to rethink what she was supposed to do.

"Wait for a second," the guard spoke again.

Her steps halted and her back straightened.

"Turn around and show yourself."

Yu Feng tightened her hands into fists but did not make any other move.

"Don't you hear what I said?" The guard took a step towards Yu Feng. His head tilted sideways as he tried to glimpse at Yu Feng's face. However, Yu Feng only tightened the clothes around her head to prevent the guard from noticing her. "Show yourself!" His tone became deep and firm. The guard put his hand at the hilt of his sword and was ready to take action if the person in front of him proved to be a threat to them.

Yu Feng was still hesitant. Before she could come up with a decision, the guard had already put his hand on her shoulder. With a tug, Yu Feng spun around to face the guard. Seconds later, the cloth around her head was taken away, and her face was revealed.

There was a glimpse of surprise as the guard saw Yu Feng's face. "It's you! Xiao Feng!" the guard hissed angrily. Swiftly, he pulled out his sword which was attached to his side.

Seeing the scene, the other guards who were around them began to take a few steps forward.

"Wait a minute!" Yu Feng raised her hand.

"Those who betray His Lordship should die," the guard spoke in a low voice that was only enough for the two of them to hear. However, his voice could not mask the anger in his tone.

"Wait!" Yu Feng repeated. "Let me explain!"

The guard raised his sword higher.

"I did not run away! Listen to me!" Yu Feng begged, but the guard didn't seem to want to hear her excuses. Yu Feng took a deep, shaky breath. Her hand raised up to her chest and Yu Feng clutched her hand tightly as she braced for the pain.

A few seconds have passed, but the pain she was expecting to come did not come. Slowly, Yu Feng opened her eyes into a slit to look at what was going on. In front of her, the sword stopped just a few inches away from her.

Her heart was beating rapidly at the scene before her. Yu Feng stared at the guard with a puzzled look and soon realized that the guard was staring at her chest, or rather, the token that she was holding on tightly.

Wen Ping's words ran to her mind and Yu Feng was reminded that this token was supposed to help her if she ran into trouble. Scrambling backward, Yu Feng then raised the token higher. "You cannot hurt me. I have this token. You cannot hurt me!"

The guards on the scene turned to look at each other and finally stopped at the guard who wanted to swing his sword at Yu Feng. They did not recognize the token, but seeing that the guard had stopped, the others knew that they should not take Yu Feng's identity lightly.

Every one of them was waiting for the next instruction and at this time, the guards parted to make way for their supervisor.

Soon another guard with a higher position stopped in front of Yu Feng. He studied the token in Yu Feng's hand and narrowed his eyes. "Put your weapons down."

His words were spoken to the guards.
