Wave of Assassins

A fight suddenly broke out and the guards immediately surrounded the carriage to protect the Emperor from the attacks.

Yu Feng stood at the side and panicked upon seeing this situation. Initially, she had thought that she would be safe as long as the Emperor did return to the palace using the route through the Western District.

She was not expecting that they would run into a group of assassins!

This was her first encounter with such danger and Yu Feng did not know what to do. The sounds of their weapon clinking could be heard on her left and right.

The guards were fighting against those attackers and no one came forward to cover for her.

Suddenly, Yu Feng sensed an attack coming from her left. Muttering a cursing word, Yu Feng swiftly bent backward to dodge. The sharp blade was an inch away from the tip of her nose.

Fortunately for her, Yu Feng was used to avoiding those merchants and the guards in the market. Upon sensing danger, her body would instantly move to dodge. This kind of move was not very hard for her to perform.

Still… to avoid a cart of vegetables and a sharp blade was very different. Yu Feng thought that her heart had almost jumped out from the excitement. Seeing that the assassin wanted to pursue her, Yu Feng quickly ran behind one of those guards for safety.

The assassin's blade clank against the guards and Yu Feng was temporarily saved.

After scanning the area for a while, Yu Feng decided that it was not a wise move to escape from the place. If one of the assassins pursued her, she would not be able to escape. It was best to hide and let the guards fight the assassin.

With that decision, Yu Feng then slid down and rolled just below the Emperor's carriage.

The assassin's concern was the Emperor and no one would care about a mere thief under the Emperor's carriage, right?

Yu Feng took a deep breath and waited for a few seconds. Once she was sure that no one was coming to get her, Yu Feng peeked at the situation from her hiding place.

The fight between the guards and the assassin continued, and among them, Qin Zhi Hao's skills can be said as the best.

Yu Feng's gaze followed Qin Zhi Hao as she admired his swordsman skills. The way he swung his sword around was so smooth as if he was swatting flies.

It was her first time watching this kind of fight up close and Yu Feng was frightened. If she was not careful, then perhaps, she would be dead soon. However, upon seeing that the Emperor's guards were winning the fight, Yu Feng let out a breath of relief.

While the others were still fighting, Yu Feng caught a dissipating smoke up in the sky. Yu Feng had a bad hunch upon seeing the smokes. A thought came to her mind, but she did not say them out loud.

"Kill all but keep one of them alive!"

Yu Feng heard Qin Zhi Hao shouted at the guards and continued to watch the fight. Just as she thought that the guards had managed to defeat the assassins, another wave of assassins jump in and this time, there were more of them.

"My lord, there are too many of them," one of the guards shouted. "The guards cannot hold on much longer."

Qin Zhi Hao sneered. He scanned his surroundings and tried to find out the best solution to escape this place and bring the Emperor to a safer place.

At this time, one of the assassins jumped on the carriage's roof and tried to attack the Emperor. Qin Zhi Hao caught the man from his peripheral vision and quickly blocked the man's attack.

With his skills, Qin Zhi Hao managed to kill the assassin with a few moves before he turned to fight with another man.

Once the guards had managed to defeat the assassins, Qin Zhi Hao then commanded the guards to hurry and return to the palace. "We should return to the palace quick!"

"Yes, my lord!"

One of the soldiers mounted at the front of the carriage and the carriage began to move again. With the prince's instruction, the guard turned the carriage as they were about to take a different path.

Qin Zhi Hao mounted on his horse and stay just beside the window. He knocked at the window twice and asked, "Your Majesty, are you alright?"

The curtains were pushed out a little bit and the Emperor looked out to report his condition.

Meanwhile, seeing that the carriage over her head had started to move, Yu Feng stood up and step up at the edge of the carriage.

A few cursing words escaped her lips. Yu Feng pondered over her rotten luck on the night before she held the carriage tightly as she was afraid of falling.

At this time, Yu Feng decided that being closer to the Emperor and the soldier might be a safer path for her.

If she moved around aimlessly in the city at this moment, there a high possibility that she might die. She had run into those men earlier and knew of how ruthless they can be.

Suddenly, there was a faint popping sound in the sky.

Yu Feng tilted her head up and saw another disintegrating white smoke in the air.

Her gaze darkened, knowing what those smokes meant and where they had come from.

A few seconds after the smokes disappear, there were shouts around them and another wave of assassins appeared out of nowhere.

"My lord!" One of the soldiers shouted. "There are more of them!"

Qin Zhi Hao was fighting against a few of the assassins when he noticed two assassins jumped over the carriage. Before he could go over and stop them, the two assassins swung their swords over the roof and suddenly, the carriage broke into two.

Yu Feng rolled on the ground as the carriage broke. Her breathing hitched with the sudden impact. With the broken carriage, the horse neighed loudly before they ran away from the area.

This time, even if they wanted to hurry back to the palace, it would be quite difficult.

Knowing that they were in a dangerous situation, Yu Feng quickly snapped out of her trance and ignored her painful back. She stood up quickly and the first thing that entered her eyes was the two assassins, pointing their sword towards the Emperor.
