In Plain Sight

A while ago, the group of guards was separated into a few smaller groups. One was tasked to escort the fake Emperor. One was assigned to protect the Emperor from the shadow and eliminate anyone suspicious. Another was tasked to head over to a safe place where they will wait for the Emperor to arrive, and then, there were Yu Feng, the Emperor, the Prince, and two other guards.

On the street, a group of men was seen walking down the street. At one glance people would think that they were a group of men who had just return from the festivities and were now heading home.

Yu Feng glanced at the Emperor who was now dressed like a commoner and was momentarily stunned. Surprisingly, the Emperor dressed in a commoner's robe would make him look like a normal person at a glance.

However, once the Emperor turned, one could notice his regal aura.

As is sensing her gaze, the Emperor quickly shot back a dangerous look at Yu Feng before she finally lowered her gaze.

"Are you sure this is safe?" the Emperor asked. He scanned around his surroundings and frowned as he looked at the crowd around him.

Hearing the Emperor's question, the others turned to Yu Feng as they waited for her answer.

When they heard that Yu Feng knew a safe route for them to return to the palace, none of them had expected that she would take them to use the street where there are people all around them.

They were in plain sight, wouldn't this make it easier for their enemy to find them?

They were worried, but the Seventh Prince has decided to trust Yu Feng's judgment. As the Emperor did not voice his rejection at the beginning, the others could not say a thing.

Yu Feng flashed him a smile. "Trust me. Isn't there a saying that the most dangerous place is the safest?"

Hearing her words, Pei Zi was suddenly infuriated. He turned to Yu Feng with a dark gaze and spoke in a harsh whisper, "This is the Emperor's safety we're talking about. We are not going to take a gamble."

Yu Feng rolled her eyes. The look on her face showed that she was unafraid of Pei Zi. Yu Deng was aware that as long as she did not anger Qin Zhi Hao, Pei Zi would not dare to do anything. Without the master's instruction, the subject can stay obedient.

"If you don't trust me, then why did you decide to listen to me?" Yu Feng shot a glance at Qin Zhi Hao and clicked her tongue.

"Pei Zi!"

Qin Zhi Hao's warning only made Pei Zi shut up. He was the one who decided to trust Yu Feng's judgment. If his subordinate started to doubt his decision, then how will he face the Emperor.

Meanwhile, the Emperor watched the little interaction with interest. His son's trust towards the young boy was one thing, but to see that Yu Feng was not afraid of Pei Zi or Qin Zhi Hao was another.

His son, Qin Zhi Hao has volunteered to join the army from a young age. Because of his experience and reputation on the battlefield, most people who encountered him would not dare to meet Qin Zhi Hao's eyes. Even a few of his ministers would be afraid to meet the prince's gaze.

But just now, not only did Yu Feng dared to meet his gaze. She had also dared to click her tongue at the Seventh Prince. Did she not know who she was speaking to?

As the thought came to his mind, the Emperor decided that Yu Feng was someone who was not afraid of anything. After all, she had dared to push the Emperor down, rolled on the ground with him, and uttered some vulgar words in the Emperor's presence.

Or perhaps, Yu Feng only dared be this rude because of her upbringing. As someone who grew up on the street, how can she know the proper way to talk to the Emperor or the Prince?

Stroking his beard, the Emperor then turned his attention to Yu Feng again. "Young boy, tell me, why did you decide to take this route. You should have your reason."

Yu Feng lowered her head, not daring to meet the Emperor's gaze. Just in one day, she had offended the Emperor a few times. When she thought of how the Emperor had scolded her for cursing, Yu Feng shrunk back.

Seeing the way she had reacted, the Emperor had a satisfied look on his face. At the thought that Yu Feng was afraid of him and not his son, the Emperor was happy. Doesn't this mean that his aura is more intimidating than his son's who had a scary reputation on the battlefield?

The Emperor chuckled. "Just now, you were not afraid of doing outrageous things in front of me. Now only you know how to be afraid?"

Yu Feng muttered a few cursing words mentally. Then, she slowly raised her head, but still, her eyes were not looking straight at the Emperor. "Your Majesty is wise. Of course, I have reasons when I suggested to use this route."

"Oh?"

She lifted her head and spread her arms. "This area might be close to the watchtower. But the shop lot along this street is a little high and they blocked the view of those on the tower."

"How do you know this?" Qin Zhi Hao asked.

"Because pickpockets especially love to hang around this street." Yu Feng turned to him and her lips curled into a smile that did not reach her eyes. "Two years ago, an official had walked past this street and was murdered. The authorities were unable to catch the murderer. The watchers could not see anything and the public would not say anything. Half a year ago, a lady from a prominent family was assaulted after she walked on this street as a shortcut."

A frown appeared on the Emperor's face. He seemed to remember the two cases that Yu Feng had mentioned. The official was a relative of the Prime Minister's wife. That lady was a granddaughter of a general. He seemed to remember reading a report of the lady's suicide.

"You can say that this district to be one of the dangerous areas in Capital City," Yu Feng said.

Pei Zi subconsciously tightened his grip on his sword. "You still dare to bring us here."

"Didn't I say that the dangerous place might be the safest?" Yu Feng chuckled. "If anyone wanted to find us, no one will think that we will use this route."

The Emperor's face turned darker as he continued to listen to Yu Feng's words. "There are a lot of guards who were assigned to patrol the city. In that case, they should let the guards and soldiers patrol this area more often."

Yu Feng turned to the Emperor and for once, thought that the Emperor is an adorable person. "There are reasons why the guards and soldiers would avoid this area."

"Why?" the Emperor asked.

"Look ahead."

The men lifted their heads almost simultaneously. The look in their eyes changed when they saw the road ahead.
