Garchomp had prepared a lot for this fight and it had not even used it big moves yet. It was confident that it was going to win this fight.
Garchomp gave a big roar and then used the move 'Substitute'. 2 more Garchomp appeared. The most frustrating thing about those substitutes was that they were like a separate entity. Both of them move forward to attack Charizard.
At that time, Charizard felt that it should also be using its main moves. It also looked into the sky and then it gave a big roar.
It had finally used 'Dragon domain'. Charizard believed that it should be using the pre-domain move now.
Garchomp could already tell that Charizard was using the pre-domain move. Should it also do it?
A pre-domain move would certainly make the Pokemon very powerful but it was a short power up. After using the move, any Pokemon would be extremely tired.
'No, I cannot take this risk. It might just be a trick. I will have to hold on for some minutes till this goes away.', thought Garchomp.
And this was a correct decision made by Garchomp. Because,
---
Dragon Domain (Charizard) (level 40): The area covered in the domain had increased to 15 meters. It could now be used for 12 minutes.
(Level 45): Its defense stat and special attack stat would increase by a good margin
(Level 50): The power of dragon-type moves would increase.
(Level 55): Could include the power of blaze in the domain. This would heighten the power of the attack by a new level.
(Level 60): The area has increased to 40 meters and can be used for 20 minutes.
(Level 65): The user would be covered in red and dark dragon scales and its comprehension of the dragon energy would increase during this state.
---
Charizard's pre-domain move could be used for 20 minutes. That was a long time. Garchomp could only use it for 5 minutes. It was really hard to master the pre-domain move unless one reached champion rank. But Charizard had done it because of Axel's new talent that would improve the proficiency of domain type move.
Just when Charizard used the move, the place was filled with suppressing dragon-type energy, and its body was now covered in a new type of dragon-type scales. Charizard looked more dragon-type Pokemon than Garchomp itself. Its body was covered in thick dragon scales and it emitted an aura of a powerful dragon-type Pokemon.
The next 10 minutes was hell for Garchomp. It tried everything to defend and dodge Charizard's moves. Garchomp realized that Charizard could maintain this form for a long time.
Garchomp used the combination of 'Sandstorm', 'Dragon bubbles' which would heal it, and then 'Thrones way' which would enable it to produce a sword from its body to attack. It also used the powerful 'Dragon arts' which had been upgraded to phase II.
Charizard could maintain this form for another 10 minutes but it chose not to do it because Garchomp was still standing and it had to prepare its ultimate move.
ROOOARRR!!!
After deactivating the pre-domain move, Charizard gave a huge roar and it used its ability 'Blaze'. The power of Charizard improved drastically but it was not as effective as before.
In the 'Dragon domain' move, its dragon-type moves were extremely powerful and Garchomp was weak against dragon-type moves but using 'Blaze', its fire-type moves leveled up a notch.
"It looks like I should get serious too.", said Garchomp.
Its whole body was covered in blood and scars. Charizard had given it quite a beating.
It looked at Cynthia and nodded and then it gave a big roar as then everything changed.
Its body started to suck all the energy and the sucking part was so much that even Axel could feel and see it. It felt as if the Pokemon was sucking all the energy to attack one final time.
Axel was really worried about Charizard right now. He never expected that Garchomp would have such a move. This move was similar to its 'Transform'.
Garchomp's body changed a lot. It looked sturdier and it was dark blue right now. Its teeth were longer and sharper and its body was covered in swords.
"THRONES WAY!!1"
Shouted Garchomp and then the entire battlefield changed. The entire place was now filled with bone swords that were sticking to the ground.
Then Garchomp moved in a very special way as it took any of those swords and started to attack Charizard.
BANG!!!
The power of the sword then it connected to Charizard was so massive that Axel could literally see the airflow from the attack. Charizard was flown off as it crashed to the ground from that attack.
But the surprising thing was that when Charizard was hit by that sword, the sword was broken into pieces and they sort of merged with Garchomp. Axel could feel that the aura of Garchomp had increased a bit.
What kind of sorcery was this?
There were 100s of bone swords sticking out of the ground. If its aura and power started to increase by disintegrating those swords, then it would be unstoppable.
Garchomp quickly grabbed another sword from the ground and hit Charizard with it. The sword was also broken down and it also merged with Garchomp.
At this time, Charizard could have used the move 'Transform' but it could not.
Why?
Because Axel told it not to use it.

Flashback 3 days ago,
Axel met with Charizard and also looked at his status page. He not only did that but also talked to Ninetales who had been training Charizard for some time now.
First of all, he was surprised to see how much it had grown in a short period of time. He also realized that none of its moves had leveled up more than level 65.
'Is level 65 then the next big hurdle?', he thought.
That must be it because none of his Pokemons have the move over level 65. He also talked to Ninetales about Charizard's training.
He received some positive feedback like how hardworking it really was. He already knew this but hearing it from a third party made him proud.
But there were some worrying things too.
"Axel, I have trained it and analyzed it a lot and I can tell that it cannot master 3 directions at the same time. Charizard wants to master 'Smoke', 'Ash' and 'Flame heart' at the same time but it cannot do all 3 of those. It has its limits.
I have been training it on 'Flame heart' direction because I feel that this is the most suitable for it and I have also trained and mastered the same direction.
It is your job to make it understand that it should swallow more than it could chew."
Axel knew this. While Shedina could master multiple directions, not all of them could do it. Charizard only wanted to do it cause Shedinja was doing it. That was not a logical reason.
"The second thing about it is the move 'Transform'. Don't tell it to use in the next battle against Garchomp.", said Ninetales.
When Axel asked the reason for not using it Ninetales gave it a simple answer.
"That move would let it use the power that it had still not owned till now. It would increase the capacity of Charizard and that is a good thing. It could feel what the higher level feeling is and train on it but using it continuously would slowly break its body.
I have done a lot of preparation and given it a lot of medicines to make its body stable now. So, if it used that move again, the effect would grow again.
So, don't let it use that move until I tell you that it is prepared to do so."
Flashback End.

So, Charizard was in a pickle.
It knew for sure that it could not defeat Garchomp without that move but what Axel had said it made it believe that it should defeat it without using that move.
Charizard used the move the 'Dragon king'.
It had 3 pre-domain moves and 'Dragon king' was the strongest pre-domain move as it was the combination of the two.
That was why Charizard had not used the 'Dragon domain' move for 20 minutes.
Of course, the move was not as powerful as 'Transform' but this move was also so powerful that Charizard could use the move 'Substitute' to give excess energy to the said substitute.
And it did exactly that.
---
Dragon King (Charizard) (Level 40): The area covered in the domain had increased to 25 meters. It could now be used for 8 minutes.
(Level 45): Its defense, speed, attack, and special attack would increase inside the domain.
(Level 50): The target would be intimidated in this domain and the power of its fire-type and dragon type moves had increased.
(Level 55): Can cover an area of 40 meters and can be used for 20 minutes.
(Level 60): The move combines all the effects of fire and dragon domain. The surplus energy from this move could be used on substitutes that could further fight with the user.
---
The move had also leveled up and it had become very powerful. After using the move and seeing the description of the move, Axel was confident that Charizard would win but at that time, Garchomp said,
"Let me also use my pre-domain move."
Axel realized that Garchomp had not even used its pre-domain move and it was still holding on to Charizard.
Its aura instantly shot up. Axel could tell that a tier 1 pseudo-champion rank Pokemons should not be holding so much power. It had somehow become extremely powerful than Charizard.
Axel could tell that Charizard would definitely lose this battle. Even though Garchomp was not out here to kill Charizard, he could tell that it was going to hurt Charizard really badly.
So, he took action.
He stood up and said in a loud voice, "Charizard surrenders!!! The battle is over!!"
He had enhanced his voice from his aura. Everyone could hear it. Cynthia also could tell that things have gotten serious and Garchomp might not be able to control it.
So, she also stood up and immediately told Garchomp to stop.
For a few seconds, Garchomp didn't hear Cynthia. So much power and energy was surrounding it that it had gone mad from all the power that it was receiving. Axel could tell that this was the same case when Charizard was using the move 'Transform'. Axel didn't know how Garchomp and Cynthia was able to achieve it but they had done it.
But when Cynthia shouted the second time, Garchomp immediately looked at Cynthia with angry eyes and after looking at Cynthia's angry and stern face, it controlled its aura and deactivated its power.
The commentator didn't know what to say right now but everyone was waiting for its announcement.
"Ahh… The battle ended with such a climax. The winner is Cynthia and Garchomp."
The crowd cheered Cynthia and Garchomp. Charizard felt that it had lost a lot of respect today but Axel gestured for it to calm down and he would talk to it after some time.
###
After the battle was over and Garchomp was crowned as the champion, the crowd was not feeling. Most of them were from Hakone city and they were not liking that Axel lost in their home ground.
But what could they do? Axel and Charizard had lost and Axel even told Charizard to surrender. But they still respected Axel for what he had done to the city.

Night time,
Axel, Lance, Steven, Cynthia, and Axel's family were sitting in the garden and having a bonfire at night. Axel and Cynthia had not talked since then.
Cynthia seemed to be in a deep thought and she refused to talk to anyone.
"Ahh.. hmm.. Cynthia, you seemed to be in deep thought. Is something bothering you?", asked Lance.
He just could not keep quiet. That was not his nature.
Cynthia directly looked at Axel and said, "Why didn't you tell your Charizard to give its all in that battle? Are you underestimating me and Garchomp?"
