Failing to Learn Her Lesson

Lin Qianyi looked at Deputy Chief Ou impassively. It was all self-evident.

Deputy Chief Ou met her eyes and sheepishly averted his gaze.

Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, he forced a smile and hurriedly nodded. "Yes, yes. Ms. Lin, you're right."

He treated Lin Qianyi respectfully but was not so deferential toward Father Xia and the rest.

Deputy Chief Ou turned and immediately assumed a fierce expression. He glared at Father Xia and the rest.

"You have purposely twisted the truth and tried to place the blame on Ms. Lin. Now that we have proved Ms. Lin's innocence, I think you should apologize to her."

"On what grounds? She's just a poor, common girl! Deputy Chief Ou, why are you so scared of such a lowly girl?"

Failing to learn her lesson, Mother Xia blurted out again without thinking. She pointed at Lin Qianyi as she scolded loudly.

Deputy Chief Ou's face turned black as his authority was once again challenged.

He was fearful of that mysterious man's identity, but it didn't mean he was fearful of the Xia Family.

Compared to his uncle's family, the Xia Family was an insignificant speck!

If not for the fact that he happened to be urgently in need of some money, he wouldn't have bothered about the inferior Xia Family!

"Looks like Madam Xia has a lot of opinions about the way the police handle cases? I have no choice but to act impartially upon this, then."

Deputy Chief Ou gritted his teeth as he commanded his men. "Madam Xia has purposely misled our investigation. We will have to bring her back to the police station to interrogate her and find out exactly what's going on!"

His two subordinates immediately went forward and restrained Madam Xia.

Father Xia already knew things were going downhill the moment his wife opened her mouth.

"Well… Deputy Chief Ou, my wife…"

Father Xia glanced at the piteous Mother Xia as he tried to plead with him.

But before he could complete his sentence, Deputy Chief Ou cut in.

"Bring her back to the station!"

He waved, and his subordinates dragged the pale-faced Madam Xia out of the banquet hall.

The hearts of the onlookers thumped uneasily as they heard her fading shrieks.

"All those who wrongly accused Ms. Lin better apologize to her now. Otherwise… you will all be taken back to the police station for interrogation!"

Deputy Chief Ou announced to everyone in the banquet hall.

With that, he looked cautiously at Lin Qianyi. His only fear was that she would be dissatisfied with the way he was handling things.

Looking at Lin Qianyi's lack of reaction, his anxious heart relaxed slightly.

Everyone at the banquet instinctively looked toward Father Xia.

After all, the entire incident had started because of Yao Sisi and Zhang Xuezhen, and Zhang Xuezhen was from Mother Xia's side of the family.

In addition, it was Father Xia himself who called Deputy Chief Ou over.

As a result, it was natural that they all looked toward Father Xia to see what he would do next.

Feeling the eyes of the crowd, Father Xia clenched his fists with a grave expression and glared fiercely at his daughter.

He had been in business for so long, there was no way he didn't know that it was his own daughter who was the mastermind behind the entire mess.

But he thought Lin Qianyi was just a nobody and so allowed the matter to escalate.

Who knew… that things would turn out like that!

Father Xia would have to publicly apologize to a little girl today. He would definitely be the laughingstock of all his peers in the future.
