Ramier and Ashley sat opposite each other. Ashley would sneak a couple of glances at Ramier who was deep in thought. He seemed distracted with something.
They remained quiet for a couple of seconds. When he realized that he was spacing out in front of Ashley. He quickly composed himself and returned to his usual self.
"So.. I assume we have a lot to talk about?" he started the discussion.
"Yeah. There are a lot of things that I'd like to know. Since our discussion last time was Uhm.. Ruined." she said awkwardly. She didn't want to recall those past incidents anymore. It only brought her shame.
The corner of his mouth rose. "Oh... that."
Ashley directed her gaze elsewhere and her cheeks turned red. Can they just forgive and forget? She now learned her lesson. Besides wasn't his punishment enough?
Remembering what he did back then made her anger resurface. But she still kept it in. Now was not the time.
"So, what would you like to talk about."he leaned down comfortably on the cushioned chair. He raised his right hand and used the handle as support. It made him look indifferent and relaxed at the same time.
He looked regal and elegant though that was the only thing he did. She blinked a couple of times wondering how effortless that was for him. She couldn't even do that.
She snapped herself from her daze and spoke with reluctance traced in her voice.
"Actually, it's about the legacy thing..." she trailed off.
"Continue… "
"Well. I want to know how I got here... I want to find a clue." she said with determination.
During the afternoon she spent alone, she constantly thought about the legacy thing he explained to her last night. Since she was from a different other world and was transported here by the box, it was also possible for other people or other things to be sent here. Maybe there was a clue about how she can leave this place and return to her world.
"Well. I don't know if going to the museum would help but... There are legacies from 'the other world'. Perhaps you can find your answers in there."
She looked at him with surprise. The other world? Perhaps he was referring to Earth?
Just as she thought there were other things that were sent here before her.
" What about the humans? I mean that came from the box. Where are they now? "she asked carefully.
"As I said, I do not know anything about this 'humans' you speak of." he clarified. "There are no other living beings that came out from the box... You're the first one."
Ashley was left speechless with his answer. What? It was only her? And no... humans?
She slightly panicked and asked a question once again.
"Are you sure that there are no humans here? What I mean by human is someone non vampiric and doesn't drink blood.. nor is a werewolf." she explained.
"I believe no one like that exists here."
What she said intrigued him. It matched every characteristic she had.
Now he knew why she suddenly spit the blood on his face. It was because she didn't drink blood. She wasn't a vampire. He finally discovered what a human was.
'So, that's what she really is. She's a human. She wasn't lying. '
She looked at him with disbelief as he was carefully assessing her.
"I think you're mistaken, your Majesty." she refuted his words. That can't be possible. This couldn't be a world where humans never existed right? And funny how she was the first human to even get here.
"I never lied." he said seriously.
Ashley suddenly shut her mouth at that. She felt her world collapse. She suddenly felt afraid and the glimmer of hope she hoped for, vanished in an instant after he said those words.
How will she go home then? If she couldn't, what would happen to her?
She tasted something bitter in her mouth. She suddenly turned anxious. Her need to return home, only intensified. But it was made impossible. The person opposite her noticed how she grew quiet and showed a panicked expression on her face.
"I presume you are from 'the other world'?" he guessed.
Ashley looked back at him.
"I-I don't know.. But I think I am."
His guess was correct. Ashley really wasn't from here. He suddenly noticed the obvious frustration etched on her face.
'Maybe, she wants to return.' he thought. That was reasonable. This was a strange place for her and she was taken here against her will.
"Do y-you know who made the box where I came from?" she asked nervously, hopeful that the person could help her. "If you do, where can I find him?"
"Yes, I know who made it...However, I don't know where that person is. Nobody has seen her ever since she left the box in our care." he replied.
"She?"
"Yes. Amilia, our goddess. She made the box herself and left it before disappearing to a journey." he said.
"W-When was the last time you saw her?"
"No one ever saw her... It's been thousands of years since she left the continent. She hasn't returned since then. " he said.
'What?'
She was at loss. And felt her hope crumble. It was a dead end for her. She was truly cornered into an inescapable situation.
What was gonna happen to her now? Where is she gonna go? Since there were no other humans besides herself and only vampires and werewolves were here, what was she supposed to do? How could she wait for someone who was gone for thousands of years? What if she was yet to return?
She started to tear up.
'Why is life so unfair!' she cursed in oher mind.
She wasn't aware that she was already breaking down in front of Ramier. If she knew she still wouldn't care. She was already so tired. In addition her current emotions were unstable.
Ramier only watched her as she cried and stared blankly on her shaking hands. He didn't know if he should say something to comfort her or just shut up.
When Ashley was back to her senses and remembered Ramier's presence, she quickly wiped her tears and met his blood-red eyes. She lowered her head when she still couldn't stop her tears.
He retrieved his handkerchief from his pockets. Ashley lowered her head and saw a big hand covered in gloves in front of her face. He was offering her his handkerchief. She shook her head, rejecting his offer. But Ramier didn't seem to care and quickly took her hand and shoved the handkerchief to her palm.
She nodded her head as thanks and wiped her tears, also blowing her nose.
"I'll take you to the museum tomorrow. Maybe, there are some clues about where you came from. There must be something that could help you return to your home." he said reassuringly, trying to ease her sadness. He stood up. "I'm leaving. Goodnight."
He walked to the door and didn't wait for her to respond. He knew she needed to be alone.
