I blinked twice and looking in front of me was a large full-body cracker mirror in a dark room. I looked at both sides of the room to see if I could see something that would help me remember what I was doing. I held out my hand to touch the mirror and it suddenly shattered into pieces. I was shocked and moved away from the mirror not knowing what to do.
"Someone he--" I said, being choked by my own words.
"What's going on here?"I thought to myself in confusion.
I held my throat which was in agony. The pain got worse and worse. As I stood there choking holding my neck my head started pounding. It was excruciating pain. It made me fall to the ground. It was like someone was torturing me but not to death, just enough for me to suffer to eternity.
"So--" I choked on my words once again.
I felt a small stream of tears move down the sides of my face. It was a reaction to the pain that I felt. I wanted to be with someone, anyone to help me from the situation. Just as my head started spinning together to the pain I heard a voice calling on my name.
"Cy….Cyrus..Mayday."It called out
The voice that had called me last time when I was confused. It sounded warm and comforting. I wanted to find a voice. Just as I tried to push myself up and follow the voice I heard a different voice calling out my name shaking me.
"Cy...Cy….Cy you need to wake up."It said.
The world crumbled before me and I lifted my head in shock.
"Look who is awake."Glenn said looking at me.
"What happened."I said holding my head.
My head was still pounding and there was a sharp pain on the sides of it. It felt like there were little creatures in my head that were piercing needles on my skull at a fast speed. It was a gruesome feeling.
"You knocked yourself out."He said, holding the tumbler that I filled with water,"This is alcoholic."He whispered.
"Alco..hol.. Aaah is the event still going on?"I asked regaining my memory.
"Yes."
"How long have I been out?"
"Around one hour or so."
"And the event is still not over!"I said then holding my head.
When I exerted the least energy possible I still felt the sharp pain.
"Yes this time round you do not have the privilege of leaving early like the other business events you attend."He said while my head was ringing. It was difficult to hear a single word he said.
"Aaaah….my head, why the hell did you put strong alcoholic beverages in the dispenser."I asked, trying to control the pain.
"It's not strong you are just a lightweight who does not know how to handle alcohol.Plus i literally wrote on the cards that the water will only be served in closed bottles."He said looking at me.
"Oooh so what do we do."I asked with piercing pain.
"Take this tablet and you will feel better." he said.
"What's in it?"I asked.
"It's Christina's special hangover tablet solution."He said smiling.
"You want to use ..me as a test subject for a drug I know nothing about?"I asked.
"Yes. you won't die, christina is a master chemist and if you do then i will be there to organize the best funeral your ghost will ever see."
"You know what let me just keep this for a rainy day. I think i can make it through a few more hours with the pain. It's just a mild headache right?"I said slipping the tablet into my pocket
I tried standing up but I felt dizzy and sat back down. I never even realized in the heat of the moment that I was consuming so much alcohol. It was embarrassing to think that everyone who attended thought of me as a raging alcoholic who could not keep his act together for a single event. The stress and anxiety must have gotten to the better of me and I was slowly spiraling out of control. The thought of losing my composure especially in front of such a large group of people was terrifying.
"Where's Mi---Jen ?"I asked him, holding my head as if it would help reduce the pain.
"She has done a lot of the hosting work during the party, the last time I saw her she was talking to a huge group of people, maybe they were astonished how you landed someone who is an exact opposite of Miranda."He said looking at me after giving such a long explanation.
"Oh." I said even though I could barely keep the focus on his words.
I looked around the room hoping that I could see Miranda somewhere. It was hard to determine how far she had gone in the investigation. Knowing her she might have talked to every single member on the list and also talked to anyone else she felt could know something about XR. She was brilliant like that.
"Glenn, how long is the event going on for?'
"Five hours."
"Five hour !How long have we been here?"I asked
"About three hours."
"Oh."I said relieved
"Then we have an after party."He said under his breath
"What!"I said looking at him concerned
"Oh relax I am only messing with you ,Cy. I know you can't handle an after party."He said laughing and grabbing me by my shoulder.
I looked at my phone to check the time. I was exhausted and I could not walk anywhere. I scanned the room to see if I could spot even one of our targets but my vision was too dark and blurred to spot them in the room. I hit the table in frustration. I felt frustrated and my own body was betraying me. My mind was betraying me and I felt like the whole world was against me. Every feeling I had been holding back started catching up with me and I did not know what to do, say, feel, or think. I was in a desperate state with a bunch of people who I knew back in high school searching for a super hacker who might have been closely involved with me or Miranda. It was nuts. Everything was crazy and I hated feeling lost.
The feeling in my legs had slowly disappeared. It was vanishing. The room was getting dark and I felt light-headed. I looked down at the ground and it felt like the ground was moving up. I looked at it moving further up.
"Woah ,somebody has had too much to drink."Miranda said, trying to hold me back and direct me back to my chair.
"Mi…..Mi-" I began until I felt her hand cover my mouth.
"You need to stop talking."She said, adjusting me on the chair.
I felt like I was being carried by clouds and the sounds of the music in the air. I did not know how I got worse than before. I was losing it. Having hallucinations in the middle of an event like that was abnormal. The worst part was that I was not even sure if the hallucinations were being caused by the alcohol or by my deteriorating mental state. When it came to those two options I knew I was in a terrible situation.
Miranda started at me. I was not sure if she wanted to help me or take a picture of the situation for the future, my vision was too blurred to tell. She then shifted her body towards Glenn and I could tell that they were talking about me.
"Should we….."I heard one of them say.
"Sure ….but.."Another one said.
It was hard to tell which one of them spoke and at which time. I was a goner. It reached a point where I even gave up on trying to listen to what they said. It was pointless I was going through so much the last thing I wanted to hear is how bad I looked or how stupid I looked. Therefore, after that decision, I tried closing my eyes, inch by inch to escape the situation. Just when I was almost closing my eyes and blocking out any light that could enter my eye I felt a sudden force on my mouth. It felt like someone was inserting a pill into my mouth forcefully.
Afterward, I felt a surge of energy throughout my body. I felt my heartbeat powerfully with the sudden beat pushing me upwards. The blood was rushing through my veins and I felt like I had taken back control of my body. I thought I had lost it but it was back. I was happy and I was re-energized, prepared to take on a new enemy. I was exaggerating, but you get the idea of the situation. I felt good. My eyes were wide open, my mind was cleared and I could do anything. I looked to the side and I saw Glenn grinning with joy and Miranda looked embarrassed for some reason.
"What happened, what did you two do to me?"I asked
"You mean what did Jen do to you?"Glenn said, smirking.
Miranda shot her eyes at Glenn and I did not even need to see her eyes to know that they carried murderous intent in them. I could feel it and Glenn could too but he did not back down as he would often do but instead kept smirking in a more defensive position. I wondered what was wrong with the two of them.
"Leave him alone, I just gave you something that would wake you up."She said looking at me with gentle eyes.
I looked back at Glenn who was still smiling and I looked at the both of them concerned.
"Umm okay i will stay out of your business...."I said making sure that Miranda did not place me in her hitlist together with Glenn, "anyway should we get back to what we had planned?"I said with tons of energy.
"Yeah I think I am tired for the day, considering I have talked to all your classmates in one night it was not easy,'' she said signaling that she had carried the investigation already.
I could not tell if she succeeded in finding XR or not but one thing was for sure is that we would have made progress in any way.
"If that's so then we can finally start the night's celebration."Glenn said standing up with a wide smile on his face. I did not like the smile he had. It had mischief written all over it.
"Yeah a dude in the bathroom was telling me that you were hiding-"
"A dude in the bathroom?"Miranda asked ."Those stories don't go a straight direction."She said trying to irk me."
"Not the time."I said looking at her." anyway,' I said going back to Glenn."What is this whole thing about?:" I asked.
"Oh you will find out soon enough." He said walking to the front of the room strutting as if he owned the whole place.
"Is he okay?"I asked looking at Miranda.
She shrugged and I sat down waiting to see what ridiculous thing Glenn had planned for the night.
