Awaiting the response from Jude is driving my nerves up the wall. My heart is beating at an abnormal speed, bones aching for the truth, blood convulsing through my veins and my skin trembling for this all to be over with. Isadora ended up leaving the dire information for her husband to leak out and it's extremely frustrating how much they are dragging this entire thing out. I understand that this meeting is very serious but all they are doing is misguiding my emotions.
Finally, I watch as Jude begins to vaguely part the creases of his lips. The look on his face and how his forehead scrunches shows his hesitation on where to start. You can tell he had practiced going about this a few different ways but he's not sure which one would be the best. Here it comes… what I've been waiting for all this time.
After inhaling quite deeply, Jude exhales the stress knowing that it's time to get this meeting over and done with.
"I have gathered everyone here today for the simple fact that this planet needs a savior. Earth has been the desired home of foul demons for centuries and our time to stop them is coming to a close end. Demonic presences have been appearing more and more throughout the past year and it seems that they are near to accomplishing their endeavor. The Devils have a thirst for provoking darkness and a pang of hunger to destroy anything with an ounce of light. Earth cannot succumb to their plan. Earth cannot be an accessible home to the monstrous creatures down below," Jude pauses to take another deep breath before continuing on, "and this is where our dear Avalon comes into play. The battle between light and dark has been going on even before Dinosaurs walked the Earth. Avalon, you might wonder how it is even possible to try and end this war. All I can say is that you're the chosen one. With the help of each Guardian, you will gain new and exciting powers. These powers I speak of lay within your soul and all you need is help to set them free. Freeing the spirits of your energy will grant you with the almighty ability to take down each Devil and bring their plan to an abrupt end." Jude wraps up his introduction leaving a huge weight on my shoulders.
"The Guardians sitting around this table all have a unique ability that they've come to master," Isadora steps in for a moment, "in order to attain each power you will be training with each Guardian from sunrise to sundown. You have a total of three weeks which leaves only two days with every Guardian. This is all the time we can afford." She makes a close to her statement taking a step back for Jude to continue.
"Who's training this mortal first?" Raine chimes in with such sass as always.
"Nate will be the first," Jude answers
"Should've guessed it'd be lover boy," Raine cracks sounding even more stuck up.
"You're just mad that you don't have what it takes to be the 'savior'. Suck it up, metal-brains." Nate squeezes in a comment leaving Raine with her jaw dropped to the floor. Metal brains...?
"THIS is not the time NOR place to joke," Jude quickly states, "do I make myself clear?" he concludes with each straight face nodding in his direction.
The rest of the meeting contained more information about me having to save the world. We only sat around the table for another ten minutes while Jude finished filling me in on my duties. Apparently the portal between Hell and Earth is coming to a full circle and it's my job to destroy each hanging piece to the point of no remains. Doing this will also destroy the Underworld, completely. The problem? The portal lies within Lucifer's chamber and it is told that he never is more than five feet away from it. This became the reason why I have to defeat each Devil; finally bringing them to their final breath. Jude declared that Gabriel will have a make-shift map prepared for me to study. Bringing down the portal and wiping out the Underworld will leave me with little to no time to escape. I need to have the paths of Hell memorized to the fullest.
I was the last to leave the quarters of Jude and Isadora. Walking outside washed a lot of my stress away. The cramped room I was in made it hard to breathe but this fresh air makes up for it all. I notice Nate, Gabriel, Raine, and Liam talking amongst one another in the distance. I can't help but feel like Nate was too good to be true. It was fun for the moment but now I have to focus on the mission – not him. Even if he was just a friend, the fact that I felt a little more shows me that it has to come to an end.
"Ava!" I hear Enna squeal while running in my direction, "you get to train with me second!" She excitedly states.
"Definitely looking forward to it!" I try responding with as much excitement, "at least I know you won't try eating me alive!" I laugh and Enna catches me looking towards Raine.
"Don't mind her… She's like that with everyone. But I'd still worry about the eating part!" Enna grins from ear to ear and I can't help but wonder how she's always so damn happy.
"Thanks, Enna." I chuckle while turning towards mine and Sera's quarters. I better get a good night's rest. Sounds like the last chance I'll have for a while…
