Tap into Magic (34)

"There is a way to end this but. . ." He paused, keeping the glass down on the counter again. "But it involves you." He turned back to confirm the look in my eyes.

"What am I supposed to do?"

"You have the blood of potens coven in your veins, making you a very powerful witch. If we somehow work together in this, we can stop this from happening." He concluded and his eager eyes met mine.

"Then we should start ---." I was interrupted by him.

"But before that you need to tap into your magic." He informed.

"Tap into magic?" I was confused. "What is that supposed to mean?"

"Witches are born with magic. Magic runs in our veins, just like blood does. It is upto us whether we choose to practice that magic or not. And to practice magic we need to tap into it. Tapping into magic is like embracing a latent part. It involves a ritual which activates a witch's power, enabling them to use their magic."

"I don't understand. Are you saying I can't use my magic because I haven't tapped into it yet."

"Yes. The reason you still have a choice to walk away from this is cause you're still a human. Once you choose to tap into your magic, you'll be a witch. You will consume your magic and it will do the same. All in all, you won't be able to turn back to normal ways."

"It's alright. As far as I can end this, I am willing to do anything it takes. So how can I tap into my magic?"

"Easy there! You can't just tap into your powers. It involves a ritual which cannot take place without a celestial event."

"A celestial event?"

"Yeah. Like an eclipse, new moon, full moon, comet flybys or any other celestial event. It can be performed only when these type of celestial events take place. The person who taps into the power needs to absorb energy from these events in order to sustain the power within." He explained. His hands moving along as he spoke. "A celestial event releases a huge amount of energy. Witches can draw energy from these events."

"So I need to wait until the next celestial event."

"Yes." He walked over to the bookshelf in the room and picked out a book. "Here." He handed over the book to me.

It was a journal. "What's this?" I asked flipping the pages of the journal. The pages were pale and filled with black inked calligraphy. It had a moist musty smell with a hint of grass and vanilla.

"It's a journal related to everything you might want to know about tapping into magic." He answered. "You can keep it and if you have trouble understanding anything, you can ask me."

"So--- how much long do I have to wait? When is the next celestial event?" I asked, closing the journal.

He stared away, engaged in his own thoughts. His eyes narrowed and finally closed. The muscles on his forehead creased as if he was concentrating over something. "There is a solar eclipse after eight days from today."

"Perfect." I spoke immediately. The sooner the better. "Do we need to do anything else before that?"

"No. But are you sure you want to do this?" He sounded real concerned. Almost like a guardian is towards their child.

"Yes. I don't care if I am involved. I just want to end this. Don't you?" I said, embracing my fears and giving a way for the confidence to shot back in. No matter what it involves, I am willing to go through anything. Now that I have come this far, I must as well get familiar with everything that's coming my way.

"Katherine. It is not about ending this. It is about keeping you safe. Think of your mother, she would never approve of this. Don't forget she gave up the life you're willing to choose." He reminded.

"But did it change anything?" I dropped my head down, looking at the floor. A gush of sorrow washed over me. "She did everything to keep me from walking into this but here I am, willing to give up all her efforts because there's no choice left. I know--- I know she would never want this for me. But is there any other way out of this?" I sighed. Feeling the tears make there way from the corner of my eyes, I brushed a hand around my eyes. "I believe this was my destiny after all." I said with a heavy heart.

"Moreover I cannot bear someone else dying because of me." I said, clearing my throat.

He kept a hand on my shoulder. "You don't have to worry about me Katherine. I can protect myself. I have been through situations like these in the past. All you need to do is keep yourself safe and out of this." He was headstrong determined about this.

"Staying out of this isn't going to solve this. What will I do when he comes for me? I don't want to run away. I want to face it and win." The words instantly left my mouth as if they had been there all along. "So teach me what I need to learn and prepare me for the battle ahead."

"I can teach you witchcraft but are you sure about this? It's not an easy road. You are only sixteen and you have a whole life ahead of you, something that your mother wished for. Are you going to give it up?" He stared into my eyes and I felt a little panic at his question.

Maybe he was right. Maybe I need to sit down and give it a thought. Maybe I need to compare the chances and risks. And decide what's the right thing I can do in this situation. My decision shouldn't be as thoughtless as my words were. I needed time come up with a right choice. But I doubted if there was enough time left to decide. I cannot wait forever. I cannot keep pushing it away. And I cannot waste anymore time than I already had. No matter how dangerous and risky it was, I have to finish this for once and for all.

"I'm ready."
