The bird in the cage

"Have you seen a bird in the cage? That's me; just the difference being people know that it is there in the cage while these golden pillars don't let their gaze onto me!!!" Elena said while staring at the beautiful cage in front of her windowpanes. As the chilly winds brushes through her tender skin, she tightens the hold over her phone and the resolve in her heart.

"Don't you think you are making mountain of a molehill? I mean it's not like they are sacrificing you or something. It's just school Elena!! And I will be there right. So don't worry and just sleep like a baby would ya? It's 5 in the morning." The tired voice of a guy can be heard.

He tries to reason with her once again but to no avail since the only thing he has been hearing for the past few minutes in reply is the fluttering of the curtains and uncountable sighs.

"Look Elena, no matter what you do, this is going to happen and this is what you decided to do right? The traveler has to walk through many mirages before he finds water. So all you need to do is just get past this one. Okay. Do you get it?"

"Goodnight Bash" She didn't want to explain anymore. She is already tired of it.

"Alright Elena, but this conversation doesn't end here. Bye will see you tomorrow?" He understands her better than her so called family out there.

"Yeah , you won't. Pretend not to know, alright bye" And before he could reply, she mercilessly hung up on him..... not because she was angry but just bcoz she didn't want to get him involved.

She puts down the phone and walks toward the person she loves more than herself and hugs to her heart's content. Tomorrow she will start a new phase in her life and she has to win it this time around. She has to do what she promised.

And that is how she spent the next 2 hours talking and reminiscing the time they spent together.

Before she could think it was already the start of a beginning or is it the ending of something?

She looks in the mirror to check if she is ready for this fight. But instead her eyes wander towards something else that needs to be changed before leaving. She approaches the windowpane and gently removes that latch. It feels like a stone has been taken off her chest and seeing the bird fly in the sky, she feels happy in a long while.
