It didn't take long for Sehyoon to regain his senses and swallow his fear into his stomach. Taking a deep breath, and seeing that no one else was stepping forward, he took it upon himself to be the first one to do so.
As he moved nearer to the game master, he avoided his friend's hand that had come forward to hold him back and did the same to the pooling blood close to his feet. Then, he reached into the top hat, and felt around its interior, until his fingers found a hard, round object.
Ignoring Ma's gleeful gaze, he pulled it out and saw what it was clearly; a small vat with a clear lid. Inside there was a liquid sloshing about, and the light coming from the streetlamp beside them caused it to glisten. A chill overcame him and he went back to his original position.
Continuing to study the liquid, he didn't notice the two other people who had come forward to claim their objects. The vat lying on his palm gave him an ominous feeling, but alas, it was too late for him to back out now, and he would have to try his best to survive the upcoming game; even if the thought of what was to come made fear and anxiety wage a war in his chest. Soon, his thoughts were interrupted by a giggle that soon turned into raucous laughter.
Lifting his head, he saw the being holding a sleeve to their bloody lips, and they taunted, "it seems the lord game master has chosen his first vict... players." Ma quickly corrected himself, pure delight bloomed in his dull eyes, and he said, "quickly step forward, and enter the game, we don't have all night... quickly... quickly... the hall of mirrors is waiting for you... yes, yes, just through there. Come on, don't look so scared, nothing's going to happen... maybe... hehe."
Their laughter continued, and they ushered the bewildered players through the doors of the first game.
"The lord Game Master and I wish you luck." They bowed graciously towards the players. And as a 'kind' gesture they said, "I hope you can make it back in one piece, hehe."
I hope you can make it back in one piece... If Sehyoon, or the two other players, weren't frightened before, they were now.
These were just normal attractions, right? The games were harmless, right? The way the game master spoke sounded like they were entering these games, only for them to die... It couldn't be...
But they couldn't ignore the spooky aura that the attraction gave off, nor could they ignore the frightening emotions that shook their cores as soon as they had entered through the crudely painted doors.
It was at this point that Sehyoon noticed who had entered the hall of mirrors with him. Chan and the glasses guy, who had made a ruckus before and had had three of his facial amenities sewn shut. Sehyoon remembered his name was Han-gyeol.
His looks were average, but his eyes behind the glasses had been full of life and glowed with a brilliant light. Now, they were permanently closed, and they would never shine again. Blood still seeped from the holes around the thread, and his clothes had lost their original colour; they were now dyed a deep red. The crimson colour was vivid in the almost darkness.
Sehyoon looked away in disgust and swallowed the vomit that had slowly crawled its way up to his throat at the sight of the poor guy. Then he pulled Chan to his side and moved forward with him towards the entrance of the hall of mirrors.
The first game had officially begun.
