Anonymous Letter

Alyx had arrived in the largest metropolitan area in London. It's still summer now. It was warm. For others, they would spend the season to play outside, but she chose to return immediately to the apartment she had occupied since nearly two years ago.

"Alyx, you're back." Beautiful warm smile greeted her immediately. Intan, an Indonesian who was married to an English man and had lived longer in this place before Alyx. She stood in front of her door, "how about Indonesia?"

"Not bad," muttered Alyx, shrugging her shoulders.

"Ah, you must be very tired right now. I won't bother. But…" Intan's sentence stopped, she showed her teeth, showing discomfort.

Alyx was just about to step in. "What is wrong?"

Intan's eyes opened, reduced her voice, "a few days ago, two men came, looking for you."

"Looking for me?" Alyx's forehead raised.

"I asked if I can help them, but they didn't answer. Looks like they're not good people. You don't have a problem with someone like that right?" Intan wanted to be sure.

"No. I don't think I've ever borrowed money from them," Alyx chuckled. "Well, thank you for the information." She entered first.

Alyx put down her tote bag containing camera equipment and didn't forget to keep the backpack in a safe place. "Who are they?" She wondered to herself, then concluded she didn't know who the people who came to her apartment were. And decided she would no longer think about them. If it was important, of course they would come back to see her.

After tidying things up, made Alyx hungry. She decided to go out shopping.

"Miss Alexandra, there have been a lot of letters since you left," said Jane, someone who used to accompany Tom — the apartment receptionist — on guard on the phone.

"Really? Where's Tom? Only this time I haven't seen him here." Alyx looked at some of the letters and put them back down.

"He's not been here a week. He just said there's a small problem that he needs to solve immediately," said Jane.

Alyx muttered for a moment, "Um, all right, I'll get it later. I have to go to the supermarket first."

Jane nodded.

Alyx only needed to walk to reach the supermarket where she shop for daily supplies.

"What should I buy?" she asked herself squarely while still walking with long strides. "No ... no ..." she immediately erased her thoughts about buying instant food.

The basket was brought to the cashier. Pay. And leave the supermarket. Alyx stopped three meters from the parking lot after exiting. She turned to make sure. It seemed like someone was following or it was just her feelings. But, in a big city like this, there was no need to doubt. Oh, it might be true that someone else was aiming for his life.

Alyx then smiled. Considering that she wasn't someone important, maybe she shouldn't worry about such a thing.

Alyx quickened her pace after hearing her stomach for the third time.

She carried three bags back to the apartment.

"Jane, where's the letter?" she asked, before went back to her room.

Jane handed over letters in all kinds of shapes and colors. "Just now a guy delivered this," she pointed to the envelope she had placed at the top.

"Thanks, Jane."

After locking the door to her flat, Alyx put the letter on the table, and headed for the kitchen to arrange her groceries in the refrigerator. While the contents of the other bags were put in the cupboard.

She actually didn't mean to buy instant food, like noodles, but she thought she would need them immediately, just like this time.

Alyx put the noodles into the boiling water. Then, sitting on the table beside the electric stove, stirring the egg she had just put in. For her, noodles have always been taken into account. When she saw it cooked, she took the bowl and ate it in front of the TV.

Several times sipping long noodles, Alyx has finished. She put the bowl away, raised her feet on the table. In the middle of watching TV, she saw letters placed beside magazines.

Alyx read a letter with multiple senders on the envelope, nothing to interest her, except the envelope without the sender's name. There was only the name Alexandra. The envelope was white, too simple if the fans were sending it, usually the fans of the pictures send with a special envelope. So to be sure, the person who sent this was not a fan of Alyx.

The same writing convinced Alyx that the sender of this letter was the same person. And because there were six of them, it seemed that the person sent her a letter on the day she was leaving for Indonesia.

Alyx immediately opened the envelope.

"Ha, what is this?" There was only a sentence on the paper.

Alyx tossed the paper on the table and opened another. Again there was only a short sentence. "Are you at home now? Turn on your cellphone. Yes, I'm here," Alyx answered casually.

"I heard you wanted to go? You shouldn't go." She got rid of it. "It's the fifth day. I hope you're back."

Alyx hurried her hand to open the envelopes. "Are you back?" This sentence again.

Alyx looked again at the letters and tried to sort them out. "This must be before I left. Then this, right?" She started talking to herself. "The fifth day and turn... on your cellphone."

Alyx stands up to her bedroom, took the smart phone she charged earlier.

"Already full." She took it and just looked at the thing she always carried with her.

"Looks like that person knows that I'm back." She got confused, should she turn it on now or just let it be. "I just turn it on, even if I can do magic, that person won't come out of this cellphone either."

Alyx activated her smart phone, waited a while, but nothing happened. "What does that mean? Does that person want to send a message. Ah… It just confuses me. Never mind."

Alyx stood, lift the bowl and glass.

Alyx almost drops his glass when she hears the bell of his flat. She sped up her steps towards the kitchen and immediately went out to see the guests who had come. A wide smile formed on her face.

"Michi, you came," she shout happily.

"Looks like you really miss him," the man who brought Michi smiled.

Alyx grabs Michi, who seems to immediately know that he was already in his hooman's arms. Then he meows loudly.

"Thank you for taking care of Michi," said Alyx after taking Michi's basket. "Ah, your stomach is growing, did you eat a lot?" she stroked Michi's stomach and invited him to play on the sofa.

In the midst of their sweet time, it seemed like Michi was more interested in the papers on the table, just like his owner who had been thinking about the sender of the letter. Maybe the one who sent the letter to remind Alyx of the dangers she was about to encounter, but well, nothing happened. Then what did the sender really mean. And a moment later phone had already attached on her ear.

"Hello," a man's voice greeted.

"Tom, you're back, it's me Alyx," she exclaimed.

"What's the matter, miss?" the man who was called Tom asked.

"Can you tell Jane that I have something to ask her," Alyx asked him to pass the phone.

"I told her to go... uhm, I mean she's not here. What's wrong?" Tom's tone changed.

"Looks like you won't know about this, as Jane said you haven't been here for a week either. But, can you guess who sent these letters?"

"Letters?"

"Yeah, I don't think the postman sends letters to obscure recipients. There's only my name on the envelope. Maybe the man brought it himself."

There was no sound for a moment. "Maybe. Can I see it?"

Alyx got silent for a while. "Well, I think, it doesn't really matter, Tom."

"An anonymous letter?" asked Tom then, like he wanted to hear explanation.

"Yes it is."

There was silence again, for a moment. "I think it's just a prank, Miss. Did she say something wrong?"

"No. Just like he or she was warning something."

"I think it was the person who sent it."

"Do you know?"

"Yeah, yeah, I know a lot of people who often do fun like that."

"Well, maybe, I'll ask Jane later when she's here." Alyx ended the conversation. "Why am I acting like a detective. Never mind, I better rest," she muttered when she saw Michi who was asleep beside her.
