Night

Rose slowly and cautiously walked into Caleb's room carrying a few pillows she had grabbed from her bed. She had spent all afternoon in her room, but it was already midnight and she couldn't stall anymore. She knew it was pointless to do so. Even if she didn't want to sleep in his room and on his bed, he would end up getting what he wanted. What could she do against a vampire?

She took a few steps inside the room and stopped as her eyes landed on the man sitting on the bed. She gulped and tightened her arms around the pillows as she watched his bare chest almost glowing with the light from the lamp on the nightstand beside him. He was wearing black and red-checkered pajama bottoms, with his arms bent behind his head and his legs crossed on top of each other casually.

She bit her bottom lip nervously as she continued to stare at this half naked devil. Was he doing this on purpose? What the hell was he thinking being half naked? Was he trying to seduce her? She shook her head, it didn't matter, and it wasn't working. She felt nothing, absolutely nothing! Her cheeks turned red as she kept looking at his bare chest. This guy really was ripped. How could someone have such perfectly sculpted muscles? It wasn't fair to the rest of the male population.

"Are you going to stare at me all night?" Caleb asked as he opened his eyes and looked at her. The corner of his lips lifted into a crooked grin, hearing the erratic beating of her heart.

Rose jerked as his voice startled her out of her naughty thoughts and started walking towards the bed again. "Can you put on a shirt please?"

"It's hot," he said with a smile as he watched her climb on the bed. His eyes roamed her body, amused at her choice of sleepwear. She was wearing a matching set of pink fleece pajama bottoms and long sleeve top. Even though they were baggy and obviously too big for her, she still looked beautiful to him, good enough to eat.

She sighed and climbed on the bed, keeping an eye on him cautiously. She immediately began to make a barrier of pillows between them to keep him away. "It's not hot, you're just using that as an excuse to be half naked."

Caleb chuckled at her words and leaned over the pillows towards her. "Now why would I do that?"

She instinctively moved away from him until she was at the edge of the bed and glared at the man. "You know exactly why. Now please stay on your side of the bed. If you break the rules I will sleep somewhere else."

He smiled and slowly moved back towards his side of the bed to make her happy. "Alright I won't break your rule."

"Thank you," she said as she got into a comfortable position. She lifted the bed sheet up to her chin and turned away from him.

"Try to get some rest. We will be going out early tomorrow."

Rose frowned and turned to face him, but the pillows were in her way as he was already lying down. She sighed and sat up, moving the pillows to look down at him. "Where are we going?" She swallowed hard as her eyes landed on this sinfully attractive man lying half naked right next to her like it was the most natural thing in the world. His hands were still behind his head casually, making his biceps flex for her eyes.

Caleb smiled when he noted the beating of her heart begin to speed up again. He opened an eye and looked up at her. "There's something I want you to look at."

She gulped and looked away, feeling her cheeks heating up. "What is it?"

"It's a surprise," he said as he sat up and looked down at her. "Do you like surprises?"

She cleared her throat and turned to look back at him, trying to be brave, refusing to be affected by him. Her breath caught as she met his mesmerizing dark-blue eyes staring back at her and she quickly looked away again. Her cheeks burned hotter and she shut her eyes to try to calm herself as the temperature in the room began to rise.

Caleb's smile grew wider as he watched her reaction to him. He reached out and wrapped his hand around her head, making her look at him once again. "You should look at a person when you talk to them."

She gulped. "It would be easier if you put on some clothes."

"I am wearing clothes."

"You know what I mean. Put a shirt on. It's not hot enough for you to use that excuse. Besides, you're a vampire, does temperature really affect you?"

His eyebrows lifted. "Does it really bother you that I'm not wearing a shirt?" he asked amused.

Her eyes narrowed at him. She knew this was a trap, but she had to make him cover up otherwise she was going to be restless all fucking night. She hated to admit this man actually affected her, but her body didn't lie and continued to scream the truth, especially after what happened in the study. "Yes, it really does," she said, biting her bottom lip nervously as she waited for some smart-ass remark.

He stayed silent, watching her, reading her emotions. After a few seconds, he nodded and released her, knowing she would shut him out if he continued to cross her boundaries. He enjoyed pushing her, testing to see how far he could go, but he didn't want to take any chances and have her shut him out completely. He got up and walked towards the dresser where he grabbed a black t-shirt and slipped it on before walking back towards the bed.

Rose was pleasantly shocked that he had complied with her request. "Thank you," she said as she watched him climb back on the bed. She watched the corner of his lips lifting into that crooked smile that made her stomach flip, and immediately tried to scoot away from him a bit more.

"You didn't answer my question," he said as he sat back on the bed. He leaned back against the headboard and rested his left hand on his raised knee as he turned towards her.

"What question?" Rose asked as she looked at him. Even with clothes on, he was too fucking attractive.

He smiled. "Do you like surprises?"

"Oh… yes… well it depends on what kind of surprise it is. I'm sure that applies to everyone, not just me."

"I think you'll like this surprise."

Her eyebrows lifted as she suddenly became curious. "What is it?"

"A surprise," he said with a chuckle.

She sighed and folded her knees up to wrap her arms around her legs and rest her chin on them. "Can you tell me anything about it?"

"Hmm… well it's something you can touch."

She sighed again. "Caleb… that could be anything," she whined.

He leaned closer to her with a mischievous grin. "It's something big that you can touch," he whispered playfully, watching her eyes widen and her cheeks turn red. He chuckled as he watched her quickly fix the pillows back in place to make her barrier and lay back down facing away from him. "Don't you want to hear more about your surprise?" he asked teasingly.

"No thank you," she said through clenched teeth. She shut her eyes tightly and clutched the pillow to her chest, trying to ignore him. Her heart was beating so fast she thought it would pound out of her chest. The minute he had said those words the images that had flashed through her mind had shocked her. She couldn't believe it. She was ashamed of having dirty thoughts about Caleb. She had never thought of another man like that except for Jack. What was wrong with her?

Caleb turned off the night lamp and lay back down. "Are you sure?"

"Good night!" she said through clenched teeth, cheeks burning red when she heard his chuckle. She buried her face under the pillow and tried to ignore him as she fell asleep.
