Breakfast

To his utter disappointment, someone interrupted his actions as they knocked on the door. Before he had a chance to process what was happening, he was thrown back and hit the back of the couch. His eyebrows lifted as he watched the girl who had been in his arms quickly jump up and like a scared rabbit and run away until she was standing a few feet away from him.

Rose's heart pounded in her chest as she heard the knocking on the door continue. Oh my god! They had almost been caught! She stood next to the desk and quickly fixed her clothes and hair before looking back at him.

Caleb smiled as he watched her actions. He fought the urge to laugh. She was so cute, trying to act normal while she was still flushed and panting. His smile quickly faded though as the knocking continued. He frowned and stood up, walking angrily towards the door. "What?" he asked irritated as he swung the door open.

Victoria jumped back in shock when she heard the anger in his voice. She gulped, as she looked him up and down and her eyes slowly narrowed as she caught on to what was happening. His hair was a mess and his clothes were wrinkled and twisted the wrong way. She looked over at the human, and it was obvious by her flushed cheeks what they had been up to.

"What is it?" Caleb asked impatiently as he glared at Victoria.

"Uh… I just wanted to chat with Rose," Victoria said, forcing a smile as she looked up at him.

Caleb was well aware of her intentions, but before he could reject her, Rose agreed to her request. He turned to look at Rose, eyes narrowed. She was trying to run away from him.

Rose knew she had to get away now; otherwise, he would try to pounce on her once again. She was too weak when Caleb touched her. It had to be those vampire eyes. She couldn't resist him when she looked into that mesmerizing gaze.

"Great!" Victoria said, faking enthusiasm. She had to know more about this little bitch. It was the only way she would be able to get rid of her.

Rose walked up to them and smiled at Victoria. "Actually I haven't had breakfast. Would you like to join me?"

Victoria frowned and looked up at Caleb. Breakfast?

"Most vampires don't eat human food," he said as he looked at Rose.

Rose frowned. "I'm sorry, I was not aware of that." She blushed, embarrassed by her lack of knowledge about vampires. Victoria probably thought she was stupid. The future queen of vampires knew nothing about them. Her blush deepened.

"You wouldn't know something like that unless you asked sweetheart. That's nothing to be ashamed of." He smiled tenderly, noting her embarrassment. "How would you know when we've had three meals a day with you since you arrived?"

Victoria was shocked by what she was hearing. Was he actually going as far as to eat human food just to be with this girl? Her heart tightened and she felt the hatred and jealousy for Rose grow. Caleb was someone who never changed his ways for anyone. But now he was going this far for this human.

Rose frowned when she heard his words. "Did you only do that because of me?"

He shook his head. "No. Having three meals a day has always been one of my rules. It's important to try and understand humans by imitating their actions." Of course, he was not going to mention the fact that he didn't enforce this rule until she came along.

"That's smart," Victoria said, trying to compliment him. "My cousin has always been the best when it comes to empathizing with humans."

Rose was surprised that he would actually go so far just to try and understand humans. "That's very…"

"Impressive," Victoria said, interrupting her.

Caleb frowned as he glared at Victoria. "Call me by my name. I don't feel comfortable when you refer to me as your cousin."

Victoria's face turned ashen with his words. She felt her heart drop and her face burn.

The atmosphere became awkward.

"We should go and let Caleb work," Rose quickly said to try and alleviate the sudden mood. She walked past him towards Victoria.

"We are going to eat," he suddenly said grabbing her arm and pulling her back until her back lightly bumped against his chest.

Rose looked back up at him and smiled awkwardly. "I don't want to force Victoria to eat human food if she doesn't want to," she said as she looked back at the woman who was clearly unhappy, even though she was trying to hide it.

"Then she doesn't have to come," Caleb said as he looked at the woman in question. "If you don't want to eat it's up to you, but Rose cannot skip breakfast."

Victoria pushed down the anger and resentment in her heart and smiled. "Of course. I would love to join her. It has been a long time since I've sat down to have a human meal. It sounds fun."

Rose's eyebrow lifted. Fun? Eating breakfast sounded fun? She almost laughed, but kept a straight face.

Caleb was not happy about Victoria joining them, but he didn't object further. "Let's go sweetheart," he said as he gently pulled her away.

Victoria's vicious glare landed on Rose's back as she followed behind them angrily.

Before they could make it to the dinning room, they ran into Margaret who was looking for help unpacking their luggage. She watched as the three walked somewhat together, but frowned when she saw her daughter being left behind.

Caleb didn't let Rose stop to greet her despite her protests.

Margaret's anger flared as they clearly ignored her. "Where are you headed?" she asked loudly, finally forcing them to stop and face her.

"Breakfast," Caleb said with a smile. "Would you like to join us?"

Margaret frowned and looked at her daughter. "Breakfast?"

Victoria smiled. "I'm going to eat human food with Rose and Caleb. It will be nice trying it again. It's been a while since we've had human food." She walked up to her mother. "Would you like to join us?"

Margaret's frown deepened. She was upset that her daughter was being forced to do something she didn't want to do. "I don't think-"

"Come on, you might like it," Victoria said as she pulled her mother along, refusing to listen to her protests.

Caleb began to walk towards the dinning room once again, pulling Rose with him and ignoring the two other women whom he considered as intrusions.
