The Lab (2)

The stunning woman in the office had green eyes that were the glimmering colour of emerald which sparkled when they caught the light. Long, wavy blonde hair that was smooth and silky, almost as if it was tailored from gold fabric, and pastel white skin which made her beautiful pink lips stand out.

The door swung open and she quickly got up from the chair she was sitting on behind a table when Lucas and Imani walked into the office.

"Oh!" she exclaimed in surprise when she recognized Imani and walked around the table. "Oh, my God. Miss Tallerico. Oh, my God. It's so nice to meet you." With a smile on her face, she extended her hand towards Imani who took it and gave her a brief handshake.

"Imani, this is Lucille," Lucas stated as he lightly touched Imani's arm. "She's one of the scientists trying to find the cure for the virus we're dealing with."

"Yes, yes, I'm Lucille. Lucille Larson," the woman said as the smile on her face grew even bigger. "Hi."

"Hi," Imani muttered and drew her lower lip between her teeth.

Even though Lucille seemed nice, Imani couldn't help but feel a little bit out of place because she guessed that the woman was not the only werewolf scientist in this building which meant that she was going to be working alongside werewolves that could eviscerate a human in a second.

She then realized that she was going to be working in this lab for the next couple of months, if not a year. If she kept on being like this, she wouldn't be able to find a vaccine not to talk of a cure, so she decided to get her act together.

"Imani is here to help us find the cure to the virus," Lucas said and the woman's hands flew to her mouth as her eyes widened.

"Oh, my God," she muttered before her face suddenly lit up. "Oh, my God!"

Imani made a horrified sound in the back of her throat as the woman launched herself at her but before her arms could be wrapped around the person she wanted to hug, Lucas pulled Imani flush against himself and Lucille stumbled out of the office.

She managed to catch herself before she fell and it took her a moment to realize what just happened. She stood upright and shoved her hair back away from her face before she turned around to face Lucas who had his hands wrapped around Imani.

"She's nervous," Lucas said to her, using the pack's mind link. "Don't make it worse."

Imani's heart was pounding and it wasn't fully because Lucille had launched herself at her. It was also because of the fact that her face was buried in Lucas' rock hard chest, making her smell nothing but him, and his hands which were currently wrapped around her, sending a flurry of sparks up her back.

Lucille cleared her throat and made a steeple of her fingers as she took a step towards the both of them. "Really sorry about that. I just... got excited."

Imani slowly nodded as she pulled away from Lucas and turned around. "It's fine."

"But oh my God," the woman stated as she clapped her hands together. "You're really here to help?"

"Would she come here as a joke?" Lucas replied with a blank stare and Lucille pursed her lips before he glanced at the holographic clock in the office. It was almost nine-thirty AM which was the time he had to address the wolves. "Imani, I have to go."

"What?!" she blurted, her voice coming out squeaky, as she grabbed his hand. "Where are you going?"

"I have to do something. Lucille will stay with you," he replied and she swallowed.

She really didn't want him to go but she realized that he couldn't stay with her everyday till she found a cure, or at least a vaccine, because he would definitely have things to do. She still didn't want him to go.

"Will you come back?" she asked in a low voice as she looked up at him and he nodded before he gently squeezed her hand.

"Of course, Imani. I won't be long," he stated and she stared at him long and hard before she finally decided to let go of his hand.

He gave her a reassuring smile before his eyes darted to Lucille. "Take care of her," he told her, using mind link, and she nodded.

He gave Imani one last look before he headed down the hall and as Imani watched him go, her shoulders sagged like all the energy she had instantly left her. Her eyes darted to Lucille who was currently smiling at her and back to Lucas who was already in front of the elevator and pressing the call button.

Imani's face lit up the moment he suddenly turned around and began to head back towards her, thinking he was no longer leaving her.

"I left my phone in your car," he announced as he drew nearer and Imani deflated again when she realized he was still going to leave her, he only needed his phone.

She took in a sharp breath and walked towards him. "Let's go."

They both walked into the elevator and Imani raised her brows when a still smiling Lucille followed them into it. She shrugged as she looked away from the woman when Lucas pressed the button for the ground floor and began to tap her foot on the ground till the elevator doors slid open after a little while. The humanoid bots were still behind the reception counter and they greeted the three of them as they walked through the lobby and into the decontamination chamber before finally stepping out of the building.

Imani pressed her thumb to the small scanner on the door handle when they got to her car and Lucas quickly grabbed his phone from the table inside after the door opened.

"Thank you," he said to Imani before he turned on the phone to see that he had a couple of missed calls from Vinay just as the phone buzzed with a message.
