platonic Robbie x gn!Reader

Ofc this isn't a relationship, do I look like a pedo? No thank you. Also another gender neutral reader, cuz I feel like it. Maybe a little Michiko lovin' in here, again I can't help it. I had a hard time because one one hand, i like the idea of hunters being mainly nice and sweet, but on the other hand, conflict.

I made up an ability for the reader here, I hope no one minds haha.

There was a whisper around the Hunter's side of the manor. A rumor that passed through the ears of each person. A new survivor was to be introduced. Along with the whispers, there were arguments as to who would be the first to go up against this unknown person. As all the hunters gathered in the commons, still unsure over who was going to participate and be the first to learn about this new survivor, a small voice spoke up.

"Could I try?" The room went silent as all eyes shifted to the boy that no one could say no to. As angry as some of the more experienced survivors were, they looked away in guilt. No one had ever let Robbie be the first to go against a new survivor. His desperate plea softened the hearts of the so-called hunters, and they gave in, only after ensuring that he would describe in detail the survivor's ability, habits, and role. He agreed and was sent off to begin his match.

"Remember what we told you, (y/n)?" The doctor confirmed with the new addition to their team. They nodded with confidence and waited for the rest to arrive. No one could tell who the hunter was, so before the match began everyone quickly ran through what she should do for the most common hunters. No one told them what to do about a certain boy who carries an axe. The match started, and the team was split up. Eli, Fiona, Emily, and (y/n). They found themselves in what seemed to be a corner of a mostly grey map with a few breakable walls, and a cipher machine. They began to work on the cipher machine, every once in a while letting their teammates know of their progress, when the sudden pounding of a heart caused them to freeze in fear.

"Sorry." The seer whispered as the Axe Boy switched targets from him to the new survivor. They nodded in Eli's direction, a sign for him to continue working on their cipher, and took the responsibility of keeping the hunter's attention. As they looped through the broken down walls, occasionally pulling down a pallet, they became out of breath. When they realized they couldn't hold out much longer with this boy close on their tail, three ciphers popped. This event caused the boy to be momentarily distracted from his task, and he tripped, colliding with the harsh ground and scraping his knees on the nearby rocks. It took a moment for the survivor to realize they were no longer being chased. Stopped by sniffling coming from behind them, they back tracked to the boy who was holding his knee and letting the tears run down his cheeks.

"Hey, it's ok. It's ok." They held the boy close, letting him cry and comforting him. As he sobbed into their shoulder, they brought their hand to his back, drawing little patterns as something for him to focus on instead of the pain in his knee. They noticed the number of ciphers went from two to one by the time that they had calmed the boy down, but they felt as if the boy would be even more stressed by the fact that all the ciphers had been completed and he had not even harmed a single survivor, so they politely asked their teammates if they could refrain from decoding as she talked to the boy.

"They're gonna get mad at me." He whimpered as he removed himself from the survivor kneeled before him. They waited for him to elaborate. "I'm supposed to," he sniffles mid-sentence, "to get you. The adults wanted me to get information about you and win." The survivor contemplated what to do. On one hand, they could leave with the hunters still unaware of how they played. On the other hand, surely the little boy in front of her would be in trouble and feel even worse if he wasn't useful to the other hunters.

"I'll tell you what," they began, suddenly taking note of the now red eyes of the boy, "I'll show you my ability, and I'll let you get me out. In return, you're going to help me practice. Does that sound fair?" The boy, no longer crying, nodded with excitement. Before they began their practice, he asked them a question.

"I'm Robbie, what's your name?"

"(y/n)." They smiled down at him, reaching for his tiny hand. "It's nice to meet you, Robbie" Instead of shaking their hand, Robbie grabbed it with force and led them to an open area so they could discover their ability. Both of them thought the other survivors left, but Emily and Eli showed up behind them.

"Looks like you made a friend!" The doctor spoke up, but neither of them could tell who she was talking to. After confirming what the new survivor was doing, Emily and Eli stood back to see what their ability was. Noticing their ability was fully charged, most likely from the time they spent comforting Robbie, they activated a type of shield. When the axe swung down on it, it instantly broke but caused the boy to be lulled into a sense of calm, slowing him down for eight seconds afterwards. They did it again, but this time Robbie didn't swing, to see how long it would take for the shield to disappear. After fifteen seconds, the barrier dispersed on it's own, but gave the survivor a small speed boost after it went away. The survivors watching started thinking of strategies of how they could use their ability to their advantage, when the survivor in question came up to them.

"This might be too much to ask, but can we give Robbie a tie?" The desperation in their voice convinced the two to give up their win, though they asked for an explanation as to why first. "I don't want him to get into trouble, he seems afraid of the other hunters, or at least afraid of the consequences." The two nodded and decided who would be sent back. While the two came to an agreement, (y/n) discussed their other buffs and debuffs to the small hunter.

"You guys are taking too long! I have a better idea!" Robbie announced once he had had enough with the two's debating for who was going to escape. Using the last few second of his detention, he incapacitated both the Seer and the Doctor. He chaired them both and once again grabbed onto the hand of the survivor he became so attached to. They giggled and allowed him to drag them to the exit gate, drowning out the shouts of the other two with a story made up for the one who took care of him.

"Before you leave." Robbie suddenly began to avoid their eyes. He switched his grip from their hands to his, rubbing each of his fingers. The survivor kneeled again, taking the boy's nervous hands in theirs.

"What's wrong, Robbie?" The tears that had been forgotten by him returned as he sobbed into the arms of his friend.

"You won't leave me, right? The hunters are scary, are you going to stay away from me because of how scary we are?" Anyone could hear the shattering of the heart of the survivor. They pulled Robbie into a tight hug, resting their chin on top of his head and whispered.

"I'll always be here Robbie. I'm not going to abandon you." That seemed to be an acceptable answer as he dried his tears and released them from his grip. Waving good-bye, they walked through the gate.

"Hey! How was your first match?" "Did you do well?" "Are you alright?" Questions bombarded them as they entered the manor. They sighed happily and began to explain their interesting first day. The survivors that questioned them were on the edge of their seats as the survivor took a long time to describe in detail their experience.

"I was in a corner of this dreary grey map, the red church I think, when I found a cipher right in front of me. Thankfully, you told me what to do so well that I knew exactly how to work it. I was about half-way through the cipher when suddenly," their voice got low and quiet, a way to emphasize their story-telling, "my heart began to pound. I debated with myself whether to continue decoding or to run and stay safe. Before I knew it, there was Eli and the hunter coming my way!" The others gasped in time with their announcement. Though all of them had been through what they were describing before, the story from the eyes of a newcomer was too interesting. "Eli apologized to me as this little boy began chasing me. I ran to my left, towards an area with a lot of walls that I could loop around. I couldn't catch a break. I kept running and stalling until my legs were about to give out! As tired as I was, I had to continue. That's when three ciphers popped at the same time! Well, two popped, then mine which Eli had taken over. Poor Robbie got distracted and accidently tripped, scraping his knee." (y/n) continued their story and prompted many questions about the odd situation. They got to describe in full detail of their ability that they took so long to research with Robbie. At the end of their story, they didn't add anything about how sad Robbie was of the possibility of them not wanting to be around him. When they thought of this, the heavy feeling of guilt pooled in their stomach. After they answered the questions the others had, (y/n) excused themselves from the room. Though they didn't know where they were going, they knew where they wanted to go. The hunter's side. More specifically, they wanted to go see Robbie. When the doctor first explained the manor at their arrival, (y/n) remembered her mentioning somewhere where the two sides met, the library. Of course, (y/n) had no clue where it was. They wandered the halls, hoping to pass someone who would give them the information they desired, but they never ran into anyone. Finally, they resorted to opening every door that could possibly lead to the library. As they peered into a large room, a hand carefully placed on their back made them jump out of their skin.

"What are you doing?" A husky voice emitted from behind them, though they were too startled to see who it was.

"I was looking for the library, since no one told me where it is." They shot back, trying to cover up the fact that the person managed to spook them. A dark chuckle sounded as a forceful tug pulled them from the opening to direct them to where they needed to go.

"The library is that way, if you need me to escort you, I'd be happy to do so." His voice was clearly condescending, it made (y/n) slightly angry.

"I'm alright, thanks." Though they tried to be polite, they couldn't help but shoot a sarcastic remark back, a signal to back off. With that, they left to go find Robbie. They hurried through the library and to the hunter's side. They were uncomfortable from their encounter and rushed to get to someone they trusted. Rushing, however, caused them to bump into someone they did not want to.

"Are you lost, little survivor?" They were getting tired of the patronizing voices that spoke at them. Though, they had to put up with it to find out where they needed to go.

"Could you kindly tell me where I could find Robbie?" They hoped that by not being rude they could easily get away from the hunters that scared them. This was not the case.

"And why do you need to see Axe Boy?" The hunter in front of them became irritated, further scaring them. They didn't answer, instead moving to find a way around the awkward predicament they found themselves in. Before this hunter could harm them though, a familiar face popped into the room.

"(y/n)?" Robbie came in, being attracted to the room by the calming voice of the survivor, dragging along a beautiful lady in a kimono.

"Is this who you were telling me about? She's very cute." The lady voiced whilst approching the survivor, pushing the male infiltrating their personal space away. "Robbie told me a lot about you, why don't you come visit with us?" She offers, shielding the polite survivor away from the rest of the hunters that could possibly harm them. The three walked the halls of the manor that seemed almost identical to the survivor's side, though it was bigger, and made their way to Robbie's room. Michiko, (y/n) soon learned the name of, asked them questions and confirmed that they meant no harm to Axe Boy, while (y/n) asked questions and confirmed that they weren't going to hurt them. The three talked and played until it was time for the little boy to go to bed.

"Can (y/n) tuck me in tonight?" He pleaded with his mother figure, though it didn't take much convincing. Nodding and handing the boy to the survivor, she left to prepare herself for bed. They carried him to his bed and gently lifted the covers to place him in a comfortable position. Almost the second he laid down, he fell asleep. With his last burst of energy he whispered,

"Can you play with me tomorrow?" (y/n) nodded and gingerly placed their lips on his forehead.

"Of course. Sleep well, Robbie." They left his room and went to their own. Getting a good night's sleep to prepare for the trouble that Robbie was sure to get them into.
