--The Nydisian Kingdom, Eraregord, Othes Forest--
Katherine remained silent not knowing what to say in regards to what Lucian had revealed about his mother. It was more or less a realization of why the kingdom is as it is and why Daniel wanted Lucian branded with the royal crest to ensure his loyalty.
It was no secret that his mother was beheaded, the entire kingdom was still in shock of what had happened.
They continued to bask in the silence that wrapped around the thick air. "What about the sea creatures you told of?" Katherine asked, cutting the silence in half.
As a child, the only thing that would bring Katherine comfort was storytelling and as she grew up she became more intrigued by novels and the writings of experts. To Katherine, stories were a kind of safe place where her imagination could run as wild and as free as it pleases.
Lucian leaned forward and Katherine began to adjust where she was seated until she was face to face with him. The fire that was still burning cast a shadow on half of his face but his red eyes continued to glow dark but vibrant.
Lucian grabbed one of the sticks and drew a huge circle on the grass by digging the stick a little deeper into the soil. He put a total of seven rocks within the circle.
Katherine looked at the odd diagram in front of her, trying to piece together what she was looking at. "What is it?"
"Those are the five realms," He picked up one of the stones and grazed his finger over it. They locked eyes momentarily before Lucian continued speaking, "The ice realm, the realm of fire, the realm of water, earth realm, and the realm of the dead."
Katherine thought back to the tales Eleanor would tell her about the never ended conflict between the ice realm and realm of fire.
"Getting to all the other realms is relatively difficult except for one," Lucian then picked up two of the stones and put them side by side. "Except for the water realm and earth. Llewellyn and I were travelling the seas about two hundred years ago when a storm started to brew."
"We had stumbled upon the portal between earth and water realm, the portal was the entire body of water and the mermaids there lived beneath the sea level." It wasn't the first time Lucian had come across a sea creature. A few decades earlier he came across a siren that had lost her voice.
In actuality, it was amazing how in-depth the whole world was, it was divided but connected to the other realms in portals all over the earth realm.
Katherine inwardly hoped that one day she would be able to explore the lands one day and see for herself the things Lucian spoke of but she highly doubted the possibility.
"They were attacking the ship with their tails and in the process, Llewelyn fell overboard, and that's how he met his mate." Katherine had heard about supernaturals having mates but it didn't occur to her that there could be a crossbreed bond.
Lucian thought back to that day, two hundred years ago and began to relive the memory.
The storm filled the sky and the water on either side of the ship spilled on deck. The men on the vessel who were drenched in the water tried every means possible to steer the ship away from the eye of the storm.
Lucian had his arm wrapped around one of the ropes and began to adjust the positioning of the vessel's sails to adjust its angle to the wind and draw enough power to escape the storm.
"Batten down the hatches!" Llewellyn shouted while trying to steer the ship to safety. One of Llewellyn's men began to close it securely preventing any more water from entering below the ship.
Less than a few moments later, something began to rock the ship as if trying to flip it over completely. One of the men aboard peered over the side and saw several golden scales swim beside the ship.
"Mermaids!" He shouted and as if on cue the mermaids began to hit their tail across the bottom of the ship.
Instantly, everyone reached to grab something to keep them on board. But Lucian was already close to the edge so he had fallen over due to the impact and began to hang outside the ship with one hand gripping onto the railings of the ship. When the tides brushed against him, he felt his other hand get caught on something.
He looked down to see a mermaid holding on to him and trying to pull him into the water. Lucian began to pull himself up with one hand and when the mermaid saw this she began to use her powers and forcefully drag him into the water. Neither Lucian nor the mermaid planned on giving up.
Lucian's grip was slipping from the railings and on cue, there was another impact on the other side of the boat cause the mermaid holding him to lose her grip on him and fall back into the water. This time as Lucian was trying to pull himself up, it was Llewellyn that fell overboard.
"Man overboard!" His men yelled. Llewellyn was still afloat in the water and began to swim until a blonde mermaid had dragged him deeper below sea level making him no longer visible.
Lucian's memory ended and he started at Katherine with amazement filled in her bright brown eyes, she whispered loudly, "She's a mermaid?" She turned to the side to see that Llewellyn was yet to return back from the forest.
"She still has her tail but Clarissa doesn't have any mermaid powers, she lost her powers when Llewellyn turned her." So she was a vampire-mermaid hybrid with no mermaid powers? Katherine thought.
Lucian chuckled thinking about the memory, "Sea creatures are very tricky, there are mermaids, mermen, and sirens and they don't like it when they or their homes are threatened. Impulsive little things."
Katherine wanted to ask more about what he had said about creatures of the sea but unwillingly a yawn escaped from her mouth, and soon after she had fallen asleep.
