Siege At Dawn II

Crash!

A rotating metal spike pierced through the wall, sending stone flying everywhere and devastating the troops that were on and behind that section of the wall.

"Earth mages, block off the hole!" a Silvian soldier yelled out.

"We don't have any earth mages here!" another soldier responded.

"What!? Where the h*ll did- Ugh, nevermind. No time to waste then, get some soldiers here and form a defensive line! We can't let the enemy in! Someone call an earth mage to get their a*s over here!" the soldier in charge ordered. Silvian soldiers quickly started moving to block the hole in the wall.

Kies slid down the ladder and joined them as well. When he reached the hole, he realized that he was still wearing light armor and armed with anything at all.

"You there, catch!" a soldier called out to him. A shield flew towards him, followed by a spear. He caught both of them and quickly moved to join the rest of the soldiers to fill a gap in the line.

The enemy didn't charge in like he had expected them to do. Instead, they moved steadily in formation and deflected all the range attacks launched at them. The enemy got closer and closer. They stopped marching when they were around twenty feet away from the hole, changed into a v-shaped formation, and then charged.

"Horrahh!" The enemy soldiers shouted in unison.

"Hold them back!"

Kies and the other soldiers raised up their shields and spears and intercepted the enemy. Blades crashed against shields and spears collided with armor.

Kies jabbed his spear at the soldier that approached him. The soldier moved his arm and knocked aside the spearhead with his armor. The soldier then raised his sword and brought it down on Kies. Kies blocked the strike with his shield, but the force behind that swing was so great that the sword got stuck on the shield.

Before the enemy soldier could pull it back out, Kies stabbed at his body with his spear, forcing the soldier to move back to avoid getting hit. The soldier tried to reach for his sword again but Kies positioned his shield away from the soldier to prevent him from reclaiming his weapon. Kies jabbed at the soldier again to make him back off and quickly took off the straps for his now too heavy shield and threw it onto the ground behind him with the sword still wedged in it.

Having lost his weapon, the soldier grunted a curse and retreated, with a new soldier taking his place against Kies.

Kies was at a disadvantage now that he lost his shield. Compared to the enemy who was clad head to toe in thick armor, Kies was heavily out-geared.

Kies gripped his spear with both his hands and trusted it forward. The new soldier parried the spear with his sword and dashed towards Kies, trying to push him over with his empty hand. Kies stepped back and brought the spear between him and the enemy again. This soldier seemed much more experienced than the previous one.

Kies heard a loud cry from beside him and he saw a Silvian soldier fall to the ground. They couldn't hold the walls for much longer. They were greatly outnumbered and a chokepoint will only do so much against such overwhelming numbers. The enemy will overrun them soon.

The enemy soldier saw that Kies was distracted and swung his sword at him. Kies barely reacted in time to the attack, bringing his spear above up head and blocking the blow just above his head. Kies let the sword slide off the handle of his spear and quickly shot a blast of wind with his left hand.

The enemy soldier was caught off guard and instinctively brought up his arms to his face to block it, giving Kies an opening.

Kies gripped the spear with both his hands and brought it into the soldier's stomach with all his might. The enemy soldier cried out in pain. However, the spear only pierced the armor a little, leaving a very small wound that was hardly noticeable. The Otanian soldier pulled the spear out and threw Kies back. Kies almost fell over and readied himself for another attack. Now that the enemy knew that he could use magic, he couldn't use the same trick a second time. Kies needed to find some other way to defeat him.

"Do we make our move now?" The second demon asked as he sat on the edge of the cliff scanning the battlefield impatiently. It wasn't just him who was impatient. All the other demons wanted to join the fight but they had to wait for Ammine to give the word.

The demons watched as the fight played out. So far, the Otanian army has made several holes in the walls with their siege weapons and their soldiers were flooding through them. The Silvians tried holding them back, but due to the difference in numbers and equipment, they were very quickly overwhelmed.

Ammine poured magic into her eyes, and scanned into the battle, trying to find her target. After a few seconds of searching, she found him. "I'll grab the boy. The rest of you go wipe out those humans," she told the other demons as she prepared to take flight.

The second demon laughed, got up, and stretched his body. "I was afraid that you might've told us to wait longer. I can finally have a little fun now." But before he could take off, the demon in the back took initiative and left the group without saying anything. They watched as he zoomed towards the battlefield.

"Huh, and I thought I was the most impatient one," the second demon commented. "Guess not. Well, let's go everyone." The others took a moment to stretch their wings before they flew off as well.
