Underworldly Dealings XI

"The bad news?" Kies picked.

"The bad news first? I thought you would be the kind to pick the good news first."

"Alright, the good news then." Kies didn't really care what he heard first. Either way, he was going to hear them both so order didn't matter to him.

"Are you sure?"

"Huh? Yes?"

"Are you sure you don't want to hear the bad news first?"

"What? Just say it?" Kies didn't understand why Falte was making this so complicated. Did it really matter that much?

"Ah, whatever. Bad news first it is then." Falte had sorted the messages into two piles and picked up one of them and gave it to Kies.

"I can't read this..." Kies told him as he flipped through them. They were still encoded. It wasn't like Falte had written a translation for them anywhere. These messages still made zero sense to him. But since he handed these ones to him, "I'm guessing these contain the bad news."

"Aren't you bright? Yes, they have the bad news," Falte confirmed Kies' hunch.

"What do they say?"

"They say a lot of things. Like for example, things are going to get a little hectic here soon."

"I still don't get what you're saying. What do you mean by hectic? You can't just say that and expect me to know what you're talking about." Kies didn't like how Falte was dragging this out longer than it needed to. Was it that hard to just say what was happening? The boredom must really be getting to the demon's if he was acting like this.

"Well, let's just say we aren't the only ones that seem to want this place to get wiped off the map."

"What?" There were other people who wanted to destroy Silverfield besides them? Kies thought that the demons were the only ones. But then again, they did enslave a bunch of the other races and it made sense if any one or all of them wanted Silverfield gone. But then, wouldn't that also apply to Otane too since it was also a human kingdom.

"Wait, but weren't those people human?" Kies saw the faces of the people after Falte took their masks and hoods off and saw that they were all human. Falte even said it himself as well that all of them were 'filthy rats,' and that they weren't disguised with magic or anything like that. Why would those humans want to destroy Silverfield?

"Yes, they're rats alright. I don't know why they want to destroy this place as well, but that's none of our concern. All we need to do is watch as they destroy themselves." They still had to follow their mission orders and weren't allowed to go and investigate.

"Wait, how is that bad news then?" Wasn't that good news since the humans were destroying themselves. Isn't that what the demons wanted? Unless it interfered with their plans or something, they should be jumping with joy right now.

"The reason why it's bad news is because of how they plan to destroy Silverfield."

"And how do they want to do that?"

"You know that baby dragon you saved yesterday?"

"Yeah, what about it?"

"They were planning to kill that and blame it on Silvians and have the dragons seek revenge, and if that happens then we're also pretty screwed as we'll get burnt to ashes alongside the rats," Falte explained.

"Oh." That would be a huge problem if they got caught in the crossfire.

"And I can't report this until tomorrow night as well. So if it happens sometime between now and then, we're done," he added. They couldn't leave Silverfield right now because of the mission and it could happen at any moment. There was no way that they could survive the wraith of multiple dragons if they decided to burn down Silverfield. "But we're probably safe for the time being," Falte pointed out.

"How do you know that?"

"According to their orders," he pointed at the papers in Kies' hand, "They lost the dragon and were ordered to find it. The last known spot it was seen was rather close to here so they're looking around this area. And what that also means is that we might get visitors again later."

"Oh, that might be my fault then," Kies said. He was the one that led them in the direction of their hideout. He should have run the opposite direction instead.

"It's all good. Because of that, we now know why there are dragons here." It was nothing to worry about. "Plus, they can't do anything to us anyway," he reminded Kies. Even with their numbers, which was actually around twenty, a huge difference from what Arc had told them, they still managed to beat them with just a handful of people.

"What's the good news then?"

"The good news? Oh right!" Falte had been too focused on the conversation that he almost forgot that he still had not told Kies the good news. "The good news is that we don't need to do anything at all. We can just let this all happen as we sit on the side and watch. Isn't that great?"

"That's it?" Kies was not expecting that to be the good news. Didn't that mean everything Falte just told him could be considered as good news and that the only bad news was that there was the chance they would get caught up in all of this when it happens? Wow, leave it to Falte to make everything so confusing.

Kies sighed and left the room.

"Hm? Did I say something wrong?"

"No, it's nothing." Kies hopped back up onto the roof and laid down again.
