Trouble With The Church IV

Who would've guessed the solution was so simple. All they needed to do was offer the dragon some food and it trusted them. After Falte threw Ammine a bag of smoked meat he had brought from the market, she offered a piece to the baby dragon who skeptically approached the food. It sniffed it and saw that it wasn't poisoned or anything and ate it. It was after this that the baby dragon realized that Ammine had no bad intentions. The dragon then casually walked up to her and stuffed its head into the bag, and began to gobble up all the food inside.

"That's incredible..." Falte couldn't believe his eyes even though it was happening right in front of his face. And it wasn't just him. None of them would have believed it either if they weren't seeing it for themselves right now. "To think that it would be this easy to gain its trust."

"It's rather simple when you think about it. Those people probably didn't feed it since they were planning to kill it anyway. The poor thing is likely starving," Ammine explained. Since it was hungry, it was a lot easier to get it to trust her with food. This wouldn't have worked if otherwise. It was thanks to this quick thinking that she got the dragon to trust her.

"So, now what's the plan?" she asked. They have the dragon. What were they going to do with it?

"I don't know? Weren't you the one who said to do this? Why are you asking us now?"

"What I meant to say is, do we try to find that dragon again and give this to him, or do we just keep it safe?"

"Oh, you meant that. Uh, I guess I would go with keeping it safe for now," Falte chose. "Finding that dragon again will be difficult. I mean, do we want to go back down into the sewers again?"

"No. Definitely not," Ammine agreed almost instantly. The thought of going back down into the sewers repulsed her and she didn't want to do it again. It smelled disgusting down there and it made one wonder how anyone could even live down there, especially a dragon. Dragons hated small places and also had sensitive noses like them. Unless of course, that particular dragon didn't have a sense of smell. Then it made sense for him to be able to live down there without a problem.

Ammine gently picked up the baby dragon and cradled it in her arms after it finished eating. She then brought it back into the house where she and the other two female demons resided. The place was already cramped enough with the three of them so Kies didn't understand why she didn't just leave the dragon at the other house with him and Kies. For one, Kies barely even stayed in the house at all. It was usually only Falte who was inside it.

Kies brought this up with Ammine and she told him, "You just explained the point. Do you really think the two would enjoy each other's company?" To begin with, Falte was terrible at dealing with people and was even worse at dealing with animals. Furthermore, the baby dragon didn't look like it trusted Falte. As Ammine carried it away, it kept staring at Falte suspiciously like the demon would do something bad to it.

Kies saw that Ammine did have a point. Having the two of them live together was like asking for a disaster to happen. Even if nothing occurred, neither of them would probably be comfortable living with each other. In the end, the best choice was to have the dragon live with the girls.

The day very quickly came to an end following that incident and Kies kept an eye out during the night while everyone else was sleeping in case the assassins came back again. He saw a couple of shadows moving around in the dark but didn't pursue them as it looked like they were only spying on them and weren't planning on doing anything more than that. It was fine to leave them alone since they weren't a threat.

Morning came soon afterward and Kies informed everyone of the unwelcome visitors spying on them while they were asleep. None of them were surprised to hear it and dismissed it since it wasn't a big deal.

"Just how big is their organization anyway?" Falte wondered. From the sounds of things, it seemed that it was decently large and had quite a number of members. Right now, they were desperate to find the baby dragon and their group just made an enemy out of theirs for interfering with their plan which was ironic since they had the same end goal.

"Not big enough to pose a threat, that's for sure," Ammine confidently stated. She wasn't afraid of them at all.

"But didn't that light mage get you?"

"Not just me. You were frozen too."

"Yeah, everyone except for Kies. I wouldn't say that they aren't a threat. Though I hate to admit it, they're strong enough to be somewhat of a problem to us," Falte reasoned. They were definitely powerful enough to be a threat to them. He didn't know what Ammine was talking about. The light mage had rendered almost all of them useless.

"The amount of time needed to use a spell like that is long. We can kill them all before that happens."

"Hmm, that is true. Wait... How did they get it off in the first place then? Weren't they fighting you?" Falte looked at Kies and asked. He only just realized that Kies had been fighting them. How were they able to activate that spell if he was there? "Did you not stop them or something?"

"There were two light mages and they worked together and cast the spell almost instantly," Kies told him.

"Two!? And both of them use light magic!? Why didn't you tell us this earlier?"

"I didn't think it was important."

"Ugh... All this time I thought it was one. If there are two then we have a problem."

"But I don't think they will try the same spell again, so we don't need to worry about that."

"Why do you think that?"

"They only used it in the first place because they thought I was a demon," Kies explained. "After they saw that it had no use on me, they stopped the spell."

"Oh? That's good then. We have nothing to worry about."

"How so?" Ammine didn't know what the two were talking about.

"We can expect them to not use that spell again because they saw that it had no effect on him. They won't do the same thing again if they know that it won't work."

"So that's what you mean. Yeah, then we really don't have anything to worry about. Anyway, you haven't told us about our new orders yet. It's about time don't you think?" Falte received it yesterday night immediately after the portal opened just like the last time. But he said that he wouldn't announce it until morning for whatever reason he never specified.

"Oh, that? It's nothing much. We're going to..."
