Farewell In Flames I

Nina ran home as fast as her legs could allow her, which wasn't very fast at all since she couldn't exactly run as one of her legs was broken. Everything was falling apart. Silverfield was going to end up in ashes. She needed to get home as soon as possible.

She had originally planned to follow the soldier for a bit to see if she could help along the way, but she got swept away by the panicking crowd. She lost the soldier and had no idea where he went. She contemplated on whether or not she should try to find him or go home to see if her parents were safe. But that decision was quickly made when she saw that there was another dragon in the sky, and this one was even bigger than the previous one she saw before.

As she stood there frozen in shock, that's when it hit her that Silverfield stood no chance against that thing. The smaller dragon had wiped out all the soldiers in the slums and they couldn't even put a scratch on that thing. There was no way that they would be able to take one as big as that out.

Now here she was, moving as fast as she could towards her mansion. Every so often, she would feel tremors and fall over due to losing balance. Without a doubt, they were being caused by the dragon. After getting hit by a number of them and getting back up every time, Nina eventually made it far enough where she could see the roof of her mansion in the midst of a bunch of trees.

She quickened her speed when she saw that the finish line was near. She really hoped that her parents were safe and were getting ready to evacuate Silverfield. But as she turned the corner, she noticed that something wasn't right. Her mansion was on fire and there was a lot of angry shouting coming from the direction.

'What's going on?' Nina started to panic and increased her speed even more. As she got closer, she saw that there was a mob that had surrounded the mansion and were setting fire to it with torches.

"Stop!" Nina screamed at them to stop. She didn't understand why they were doing this. Shouldn't they be hiding or running instead of doing something like this? Nina continued to shout at them to cease what they were doing but they didn't hear her.

Before she could get any closer, something slammed into her from the front and sent her rolling off the path and into the bushes nearby. "Ow!" Nina pushed herself up from the floor until she was sitting up and looked around for what had bumped into her. Lying on the ground in front of her was a small child who was rubbing his head with his hand.

"It's you! What are you doing here!?" Nina immediately recognized him as the elf boy she saved. What was he doing outside of the mansion? "What about my parents?" she asked him. The elf didn't understand a single thing that she was asking him and only pointed at the mansion and said, "Bad!"

Nina already knew that the group of people were bad, but what she didn't know was why they were burning down the mansion. She knew that asking the elf wasn't going to get her anywhere since neither of them could understand each other's language.

There was rusting from the brush on their right which drew both of their attention. The boy quickly got up and tried to pull Nina back on her feet as well. "The boy pointed at the brush and shouted, "Run!"

Nina tried to get up but couldn't. She needed her stick. Where did it roll off to? Nina looked around the area and spotted it hiding underneath a bush close by. She pointed at her foot and then at the stick, trying to explain the situation to the elf. Hopefully, he would get what she was trying to tell him.

The boy looked at the stick and then back at Nina, obviously not getting what she meant with her pointing. He then tried to pull Nina back up again but she just fell back down because she couldn't stand up without the stick.

"Ne-na! Run!" The boy struggled to get her on her feet so that she could run away but it was hopeless.

Nina stopped the boy and took his hands off her arm and pointed at the woods away from the rusting, telling him to escape by himself. Even if she had the stick, her leg was still broken and she wouldn't be able to move that fast. She would only slow the boy down and cause the both of them to get caught.

The boy figured out what Nina was hinting at and shook his head. He stubbornly refused to leave her behind and tried to pull her back up onto her feet. The rusting to their right got louder and louder as whoever was there was drawing closer to them. The boy finally realized that Nina couldn't move because she had a problem with her leg and ran over to the stick and picked it up. But instead of handing it to Nina, he instead treated it like a sword and turned to face the person hiding the brushes. His stance showed that he was ready to strike the person the moment they popped out of the bush.

Nina noticed what the boy was planning and tried to get him to stop and just run. There was no that he would be able to take on whoever it was that was coming with just that stick. "Stop, just run!" The elf understood what Nina was trying to tell him, but he ignored her and continued to stare fiercely at the brush.

A head suddenly popped out from the brush and the boy struck down as hard as he can with the stick. There was a panicked shout as the man in the brush brought his arms up and caught the stick right as it was about to hit him in the face.

Nina saw that the boy was in trouble and launched herself at the attacker, tackling him to the ground with her body. The attacker tried to push Nina off of him but couldn't since the elf was stopping him from doing so by constantly smacking him with the wooden stick.

The man shouted something in another language which caused the boy to stop and he quickly pushed Nina off of him and backed off from the two. He got back on his feet and took off his hood to reveal two long ears. He was also an elf.
