Beast Of Legends

The dragon stopped a few hundred feet away from the city and took in a deep breath. It closed its mouth and upon reopening it a few seconds later, a gush of flames came pouring out.

With a single breath, the city was engulfed in a sea of flames. Buildings were set on fire. The river that ran through the city was dried up in an instant. Water came rushing down to refill the empty channel. Half the city was on fire...

Kies watched this all happen from on top of a roof. The same dragon that transformed Silverfield to nothing more than embers was here to do the same thing.

Kies could feel the heat from where he was standing and he was pretty far away from the fire. Words could not describe how he felt right now. He stood there, watching everything crumble down.

Kies could do nothing and continue watching the city burn from where he was standing, but if he did, the demons will proceed to wipe out not only Otane but all the other major cities of the other races.

Kies spotted people evacuating the parts of the city that were on fire. Thankfully, the flames were not targeted at them but at the buildings instead.

"I'm not going to let this happen again..." Kies sent the winds all across the kingdom. They blew with such force that they suffocated the fires, stamping almost all of them out in a matter of seconds.

Surprised that the city suddenly stopped burning, the dragon stopped moving for a second. Its reptilian eyes swept across the kingdom, trying to find the one that put out the fires. Its eyes passed where Kies was standing, sending a jolt into his core. It didn't see him. The dragon was too far away.

There was a growling sound that came from its throat, happening in short intervals. It took Kies a moment to realize that it wasn't a growl but a chuckle. The dragon was amused. It opened its mouth again and took in another breath. It closed its mouth and prepared a second wave of fire but Kies wasn't going to allow it to happen.

"Winds from the North and South, winds of the East and West, answer my call!" It was a long time since he used a chanted spell, but he will have to use one if he wanted to protect the city. Kies poured almost all of his magic into the spell. "Nothing shall enter this territory!" The winds responded, spiraling around the city, picking the sands up and forming a massive dome around the city, bolting out the sky. Everything inside turned pitch black.

There was a flash of bright light as the dragon's fiery breath collided against the wind barrier. However, the winds took the flames and redirected them, making them curve over the city.

The flames disappeared and the entire city went dark again. Kies could hear the voices of people shouting and panicking, not understanding what in the world was happening. They didn't know what the wind barrier was and thought that it was another threat when really it protected them from the dragon's attack.

Kies fell onto his knees, feeling the spell take its toll on him. It took him a lot of his magic power to cast the spell and maintaining it was draining him of everything he had left. It was also something that he hadn't experienced in forever.

"I have... ten minutes..." Kies calculated in his head, estimating how long he had until the spell went down based on how fast his magic was being depleted. Until then, not even the dragon could enter if it wanted to. Well, not unless it wanted to get shredded into nothingness. Even its hardened scales and tough skin couldn't protect it from winds moving at this speed.

Everyone inside of the city was safe for now. But this wasn't going to last forever. Kies needed to find Messa and get her to stop this. That was a lot easier said than done.

Kies couldn't move from his current spot. His core felt like it was going to burst from his chest. It was producing as much magic as it could but magic was also being depleted at an astonishing rate from his body.

A wrong move and Kies might explode, literally. So much magic was being generated and exiting his body at the same time that it was very unstable at the moment.

Lights came on throughout the city. Street lamps and the lights inside of buildings illuminated what the sun could not.

Kies heard a loud crunch next to him but he didn't turn around. He knew who it was based on the sound of their footsteps.

"Are you doing this right now?" Rui's voice asked.

"Yes."

"Can you defeat that thing?"

"No." It was impossible. Kies couldn't bring the dragon down in his current state. Even if he had all the fragments, it still wouldn't be enough to kill the beast.

"..."

There was a short pause as Lentis and Rui looked at each other, seemingly asking one another what they should do. When they couldn't figure it out, Lentis turned to Kies and asked him, "How do we get out of this mess?"

"Find Messa."

"Messa?"

"The demon."

Lentis and Rui both raised their eyebrows, wondering why Kies knew the name of the demon. However, they didn't ask questions about it. They knew that Kies couldn't keep the spell active forever.

"Where is she?" Rui asked Kies if he knew the demon's whereabouts."

"Not sure. She is inside the city." That was all Kies knew. He felt traces of her magic throughout the city as he was moving around. It was recent too. Messa was still inside of the city.

"How long do we have?"

"Eight minutes. Don't kill her," Kies told them. He really wanted to be the one to confront Messa, but he couldn't in his current state.

"I can't promise you that..." Rui replied. They were their sworn enemies. She didn't know why Kies didn't want them to kill the demon.

"...Return- Ugh... -the baby dragon," Kies added. He was having trouble even speaking due to the spell.

"A baby dragon? So that's it..."

"Yes. Go now. But please, don't kill her," Kies pleaded with them a second time.

"...I don't know why you don't want us to kill her, but I guess we will see." They didn't ask any more questions and jumped off the building. Lentis used his earth magic to carry them back down to the ground where they began their search immediately.

The two of them split up since they didn't have any time to waste. They needed to search the city as fast as possible.

Kies really hoped that they wouldn't kill Messa once they found her. He knew that it was a difficult thing to ask humans, but he had a reason for it. He had a feeling that Messa was hiding something and he wanted to find out what it was.

"What's going on now!?" Sirks asked, sticking his head out the window and looking up at the sky. Everything was black. Something was blocking out the sun. First a dragon, now this? What kind of bizarre situation was going on in the city right now?

Iris looked outside of the window, staring at it for a couple of seconds before hopping off the bed. She found her shoes next to the entrance and put them on.

"What are you doing?" her older sister asked, watching her.

"I'm going outside."

"Oh no, you are not leaving!" Sirks spun around, moved away from the window, and grabbed Iris. However, she slipped just barely from his grasps and bolted out the door. She raced past the guards and down the stairs, almost stepping on a corpse as she landed at the bottom.

"Oh!" Iris had no idea who it was, but she didn't have time to stop. "Sorry!" Running through the pool of blood, Iris exited the inn.

She heard Sirks chasing after her behind him. There was a shout followed by a loud thump followed by a ton of cursing. Sounds like he just fell down the stairs. "You brat! Get back here!" she heard him yell.

Unfortunately for him, she wasn't planning on doing that. Iris ran as fast as she could away from the inn. She heard footsteps following her and thought that Sirks was catching up. She sped up her pace and tripped on a stone since everything was so dark.

"Ah!" Iris almost face-planted onto the sand but someone grabbed her and caught her before she could.

"No! Let me go!" Iris flailed around, trying to get Sirks to drop her. She smacked his hand away but when her arm hit his hand, she noticed that it was rather small.

"Huh?"

The hand let go of her and Iris turned around to see her sister standing in front of her. "Oh. You nearly scared me!" Thank goodness it wasn't Sirks. That annoying old man would've dragged her back and chained her to a chair or something.

Wompa shifted nervously. She pointed back at the inn which was still in view. Sirks was standing in front of the door, squinting and trying to find them. It looked like he just reached the entrance and didn't hear where Iris' shouting came from.

Good. Iris took Wompa's hand and dragged her behind a building where Sirks wouldn't be able to spot them. She let go of her younger sister's hand and let out a sigh of relief.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go figure out what's going on," she said to her sister. A dragon! How terrifying... and yet, exciting at the same time. It wanted to destroy the city and all, but it was her first time seeing a mythical that she only heard bedtime stories about, and that wasn't all!

There was a massive barrier surrounding the city. She knew why it was because she could detect the immense magic coming from it. She knew who was the person who cast the spell is too. Iris reaches into her shirt collar and fetched the crystal which was glowing. It was resonating with the magic in the environment.

"Come on. Let's move before they catch us."

Wompa looked uncertain about this but she didn't want to say no to Iris. She knew that she couldn't bring her older sister back to the inn no matter how hard she tried and so the only thing she can do is follow her and help her if she gets in trouble.

Unwilling, Wompa followed Iris into the dark city, ignoring Sirks' shouting behind them.

"Get your *sses back over here before I do it myself!" Sirks kept calling out to the two girls but when it became clear that they weren't coming back, she punched the wall in frustration.

"Those two troublemakers..." He wanted to chase after them but that was impossible in this darkness. That and the fact that he needed to stay here to protect the queen. Although there were many guards doing so already, the situation outside was dangerous and they needed everyone person they could.

Normally, he would be worried out of his mind about having the two girls wander into the city when who knows what in the world was happening, but whenever Iris gets in trouble, a certain someone would somehow find her and save her.

Closing the door, Sirks went back into the inn. "Take care of those two idiots, will you?" he said. The person he was saying this to couldn't hear what he was telling him, but Sirks knew that he would be there if something bad happens.
