"TEACHER LCUKY, teacher lucky," One of her students caught her attention."Are my coloring okay? Is my shapes okay? Am I doing it right? Am I correct?"
Smiling, she stroked Winter's hair, one of her naughty but kind students."Your shapes are perfect, but the color violet is like this."She grabbed the crayola and showed her student what is the correct color she should use.
Winter pouted. "So I'm wrong."
"Yes, baby." She keeps on caressing her hair. "But we can still fix it. Didn't Teacher said if you make a mistake,--"
"--fix it right away."
She lightly pinched her cheek. "And that's what you'll do sweetie, we will fix it okay? So don't be sad, it's easy. And when you fix it, I will give you gummy bears. Do you like that?"
Winter grinned. "Yes, Teacher!"
Smiling, she guide the child back to her desk and then sits down next to her to teach her what to do.
Lucky just laughed when the all of her students approached her asking if the activity they had done are correct.
Even though her students are kind of naughty and noisy, the smile never left her lips.
She likes kids who's lively and having so much fun. Because she didn't experienced that kind of happiness when she was young and she wants her student to experienced being happy.
So she would play with her students, sing with them and converse with them.
The children lighten her heart and make her feel at ease, so her Grand-mommy let her work.
"Oh, Lucky still not going home yet?" Her co-worker asked as she passed by in her classroom.
She smiled at Gretchen. "Later, I'll just finish cutting out these shapes for tomorrow. I put them in an another color for the kids to remember easily."
Gretchen shook her head, "Such a hard-working person. I'll go home first okay?"
"Okay. Be careful on your way home."
"You too, Lucky."
When Gretchen left, she poured all her attention into what she was doing. When she finished and left the classroom, she was surprised to see Parker waiting for her, he was also one of her co-workers but he was in a higher position than her.
"Hi, Parker." She greeted him.
He immediately straightened up when he saw her and smiled. "I'll take you home Lucky, so can go home with someone and also to have someone to protect you. I heard the other day you were almost got robbed."
"That's nice of you." She beamed at Parker. "Thank you, Parker."
Parker smiled and then both of them walked out of the school together. Since her apartment was just a walking distance to the Pre-School she was currently working, she and Parker just walked towards to her apartment.
"Ahm, Lucky?"
She looked at her co-worker. "Hmm?"
"I would like to ask you s-something."
"Sure, what is it?" She replied while smiling.
"Ahm, I-I've been liking you for a long time now and I just want to ask if I can court you." He rubbed his nape. "I figured that this was that perfect timing to tell you what are my feelings for you."
She blinked at Parker. "You like me? Why?" She asked in astonishment.
Parker was stunned because of her question. "What do you mean, by why?"
"Why do you like me?" She wants to hear his reason.
"Because you're kind."
She nodded. "Is that so?" Why does it seems that she's not interested? "I'm sorry, Parker, I like someone else."
His shoulders dropped. "Is that so? Is he one of our co-workers?"
She shook her head. "No, but he was the first guy that I liked. He was very nice to talk to, I was never bored whenever I talked to him."
"Is that so?" He averted his gaze. "I'll go on ahead."
She blinked at Parker who suddenly left and left her.
She pouted."He just left because he didn't get what he wanted." She said to herself.
She just shook her head and then continued walking. As she was approaching her apartment, a smile drew to her lips as she saw Jayden outside the building.
"Jayden!" She happily waved at the man. "Hello Jayden! Good afternoon!"
With a smile she approached him, then when she got closer to him she saw the entirety of his face.
She frowned as she brought her face close to his neck. "You have a new tattoo?"
Jayden just stared at her. "What?"
She pointed her finger to his neck with a tattoo. "I just didn't see you in a day and you already have a new tattoo? It's pretty." She raised her hand to caress it. "I like it."
Jayden smiled. "Thanks."
She stared at Jayden then frowned. Something feels off. Jayden doesn't smile like that. He rarely smiled. His smile is expensive, period.
Lucky narrowed her eyes on Jayden's neck. Other than his new tattoo, there is nothing strange about his face, but why does it feel like something is strange here?
"You okay, Ms. Hart?" He asked.
She blinked and then nodded. "Yeah…I'm okay."
He kept staring at her, "Is there something wrong with my face? Am I more handsome than the last time you saw me?" There's a glint of amusement and naughtiness in his eyes. "Do you prefer me now more than before?"
Lucky narrowed her eyes on Jayden's face again. "You look the same but you feel different." She brought her nose close to his neck then sniffs it. "You smell different, you don't smell good anymore."
He looks offended as he clutch his chest. "Ouch. I smell good, thank you very much."
She shook her head. "Nope. I prefer your previous perfume. It smells better."
Jayden tsked. "This one is more expensive than the previous one."
"It's not about what is more expensive, it's smell of the perfume when you use it." She frowned at him. "Where were you yesterday? Did you know I cooked Sunday Roast yesterday? I would have make you tasted it if it was still salty, but no one answered in your apartment."
"We're that close huh?"
She looked at him confused. "Kind of…I think?"
He nodded then smirked at her and asked. "Have I seen you naked?"
She shook her head. "You're weird today." She took the small glass jar in her bag which her gummy bears was placed and then grabbed one gummy bear and gave it to him. "Here, eat it. So you don't be weird anymore."
Jayden opened his mouth. "Feed me?"
She smiled happily. "Okay."
She was about to give him the gummy bear, when someone grabbed her wrist and guided her hand to his mouth and ate her gummy bear that was supposed to be for Jayden.
She looked at who the culprit was.
She blinked at the same time as her lips parted when she saw that the culprit looked a lot like Jayden.
Lucky took a side step before looking at the two Jayden in front of her.
The one has a tattoo on his neck and the other one has none. Just tattoos peeking on the edge of his shirt and nape.
She blinked as she alternated her look at the two. A few seconds passed before it sank into her brain that the people in front of her were twins.
"Holy shit." She cupped her face in shock and her lips formed into an 'o' "You're twins?"
The Jayden who has a tattoo in his neck chuckled before extending his hand at her. "Kayden Dawson. Nice to meet you, Ms. Hart."
She immediately accepted the handshake but their hands also immediately parted because Jayden passed right between them.
"Nice to meet you." Smiling she said to Kayden then chased Jayden. "Have you run out of your gummy bears? Why didn't I see you yesterday? You're not in your apartment. I would still like to talk to you because I cooked Sunday Roast. I would like to give you a taste
whether it's delicious or not, or salty."
She was talking to Jayden but it seems like he's not listening. He has this stoic look on his face.
She frowned. "Why don't you talk to me? Jayden, talk to me." She keeps tugging his arm. "My Sunday Roast will be sad because of you. I worked hard for it. With love and care and a lot of effort. Even if your answer is short, it's okay I'll still accept it. Jayden ---"
"You didn't even realize that it wasn't me." He said that made her stopped talking.
She jumped when he suddenly slammed the door of his apartment.
She pouted. "You two are identical." She whispered. "Is it my fault you both have the same face?"
"Don't be too hard on yourself, Ms. Hart."
She turned to the speaker. That was Jayden's twin.
She smiled even though she was a little upset. "Hi. I'm sorry earlier, I thought you were Jayden. I didn't know he had a twin."
"That's okay." He nodded and smiled at her. "By the way, don't mind Jayden. He's just being a jelly ace. "
Her eyebrows furrowed. "Jelly ace?"
Jayden's twin just shook his head. "Don't mind what I said. He's just grumpy, that's all."
She tsked. "I told him to eat gummy bears a day to keep the negativity away."
Kayden chuckled. "Gummy bears, huh. He hates it."
"That's what he said but he still ate." She frowned as she opened the door of her apartment then waved her hand at Kayden. "Bye. Nice meeting you.
Kayden smiled. "Take care, Ms. Hart."
She nodded and entered her apartment and locked the door.
She rested for a few minutes before entering the bathroom and took a shower then she had dinner alone, ignoring the noise in the other apartment.
Then she hung out on the balcony and called her Grand-mommy to say hello.
"BRO, I BROUGHT grilled meat for you." He heard his twin say as he entered his apartment. "Where am I going to put it? Are we going to eat it now? Hurry up, I'm hungry."
His jaw clenched as he took a knife from the kitchen and then confronted his twin. "Stay still."
Kayden stilted. "What?"
He twisted the knife around his fingers as if playing with it. "I'm gonna throw this knife at you, you motherfucker. So stay still."
"Are you nuts?" His eyes widened. "When that hits me ---"
"Then catch it, you're good at fighting, aren't you? And you're a doctor, just treat your wound. I won't hurt you too much.
"Come on Jayden, Stop that ---"
"I'm angry." His jaw moved in anger. "So stay still."
Kayden let out a loud breath. "Is this because of Ms. Hart ---" He throws the knife. "Fuck you!"
His twin easily avoided it then glared at him. "Why the hell are you angry at me?"
Instead of answering, he fixed the table for dinner and snatched the grilled meat his twin was carrying and then started eating without inviting his twin.
Kayden tsked. "Ms. Hart was looking for you yesterday." Kayden said then joined him for dinner. "Where did you go?"
"I went to visit Sophia." He replied.
His twin was silent for a few seconds before answering. "You sound guilty."
He stopped eating then sighed. "I am. I forgot her because of an another woman. She must be disappointed at me right me now. I promise her that I'll ---" He stopped talking then clenched his fist. "Why did I forget her because of that woman?"
Kayden sighed. "Bud, it might not be too bad to be happy."
"I don't want her to be alone." He whispered softly then blew a violent sigh. "I promised her."
"Then why are you so mad at me because of Ms. Hart who smiled at me?" Kayden asked him. "Maybe there's a reason you met Ms. Hart."
"I did not met her." He emphasized said. "She's just a job. I don't want to disappointed Sophia."
"If there's a woman who will be disappointed because of you, it's Ms. Hart." Kayden stood up. "Valdez said, watch her, do not befriend her. If you do not have the courage to stand up for what you did, you should have not approached and befriend her and you should have not introduced yourself."
"She has an intoxicating bright smile." He whispered.
"I don't care." He cut short what else he would have say. "If you can't take responsibility of what you started, don't show yourself to Ms. Hart, you will just hurt her. That bright smile that you like, it will be a sad smile. And don't be jealous if you don't have the balls to continue what you started --- "
"I'm not jealous!"
"Tell that to the marines!" Kayden hissed back. "You're going home with me, so pack up."
He was irritated when he leave the dining table because he had lost his appetite. He went to the bedroom and was stunned to hear Lucky's voice as if someone was talking to her.
"--- really okay Grand-mommy." She said in a soft voice. "My heart doesn't always hurt. Only once when I'm upset or scared and shocked. Then haven't we talked about it, that I will not lose to this sickness and I will fight it then I will do everything I want?"
Her Grandmother laughed softly. "Grand-mommy, I can take whatever the world throws at me. I'm strong remember?"
Jayden was rooted in place as he listens to Lucky talk.
Her heart will get hurt when she gets upset or scared?
Valdez said she's in danger.
If those men get to her, she will be scared and her heart will hurt and it may give up on her.
That bright smile that he likes ... it'll be gone.
Why doesn't he like that thought? That he will not see Lucky's smile again?
Jayden found himself on the terrace and looked at Lucky informing her Grandmother that she was about to rest.
And when she ended the call he steps back to hide from her.
He stared at the emptiness for a few seconds before falling down on the bed. After a few moments, Kayden called him.
"Someone is outside." His twin said loudly.
He lazily came out of the room and then passed by his twin who was watching TV but was muted.
He shook his head then opened the door.
He stilted when he saw Lucky.
A sweet bright smile graze her lips when she saw him
'That smile.'
"Are you still grumpy?" She asked while smiling at him. It seems that she doesn't mind how he talked to her angrily earlier. "Do you want to taste the Sunday Roast I cooked?" She showed the Tupperware she was holding. "Because you weren't here yesterday. It's not salty anymore, I think but I'm not sure. But I cooked it with love, care, and lots of effort."
He did not answer. He just stared at her.
Then he heard Kayden's voice. "Hurry up Jayden. You're still gonna pack!"
He turned to his twin. "I'm staying."
Kayden shook his head and approached him and immediately smiled when he saw Lucky.
"Hello there, Ms. Hart." His twin greeted Lucky. "Do you still have gummy bears for me?" She gave Kayden a big smile. "I gave your twin a big jar. And since he really doesn't like it and he only eats one piece a day, I'm sure he still has some left."
Kayden turned to him. "Where did you put it?"
"I throw it on the trash bin." He said without having second thoughts.
And he saw how Lucky's smile fell and how pain crossed her eyes.
"Why did you throw it away?" Her voice is trembling, like she's about to cry. "You should have just gave it back to me, I could have given it to others. It's a pity. You could have just gave it to the kids below. Why do you have to throw it away? You could have given it back to me, I don't mind."
"Lucky ---"
"I won't give you gummy bears anymore." Her hand touched her chest where her heart was and then gently massaged it. "And don't mind what I said earlier. There are children downstairs to eat what I've cooked. Sorry for the inconvenience."
He closed his eyes tightly and then tweaked his own hair. "What was I thinking?"
"She gave it to you happily and you throw it away. Did you see how vulnerable she looks?" Kayden tsked. "Yes, that's shallow but it hurts for the giver especially if it is important to them. She was right, you should have just returned it." He tapped him on the shoulder and left him in front of the door.
He slammed the door shut then entered his room and sit on the side of the bed.
He wanted to hurt himself when he heard the sobbing that was being suppressed in the other apartment but he could still hear it.
Lucky.
