'Harry, here's the statement I got from Mr. Minnie in the hospital.' A man who couldn't have been more than twenty-five, said handing over a file folder.
'Thanks, Justin. Sit down and talk through things with me.' Harry was pushing forty and in love with his much younger partner but never would admit it. Besides he was already married, to his work that is. 'Talk to me about this Minnie person.'
'Minnie Winstrup, age 36. Lives with Isa and Mai Winstrup. Has a 21 year old son named Chichi. He was raped by a first year university student when he went into his first heat while he was in his last year of junior high. After that, he was often brought in on charges of prostition but they were changed to charges of rape by the alphas around him after medical reports were brought in each time.'
'Mr. Minnie was charged with the rapes, or the alphas?'
'The alphas. Though it seems that they managed to buy their way out of any sort of justice.' Justin looked extremely frustrated by that fact.
Harry picked up on Justin's emotions and said, 'That is the way society was two decades ago, and still is in many ways, Justin. After all, take Sergeant Littell. He was quick to arrest Mr. Minnie simply because he was an omega, while the most logical suspect was an alpha. However… We aren't going to let that happen, Justin. Not this time.'
'You're right sir!' Justin cheered up at the man's words then continued, 'From Mr. Minnie and Mrs. Mai's statements, it appears that Mr. Court Davison was the man behind the rapes. While Mr. Minnie was pregnant with their child, Mr. Court sold Minnie to whatever alpha wanted sex with a pregnant omega. When Mr. Isa and Mrs. Mai found out what their son was putting Minnie through, they disowned their son, kicked him out of their house, took in Mr. Minnie, and got a restraining order against Mr. Court. Because of the abuse, poor care during pregnancy, Mr. Chichi was born a sickly thing.'
Harry held up a hand to interrupt Justin, his gaze resting on the man across the way asking for Sergeant Littell. He slowly stood up, then walked over to the blonde man. 'Hello, good sir. I am Detective Harry Walkins. Sergeant Littell is actually on leave right now, and his cases have been--'
'Seriously?! First he tries to pin blame on an innocent Omega and now he ditches the case entirely?!'
Harry patted the man's shoulder, and continued, 'His cases have been reassigned. The one you are talking about was reassigned to me and my partner.' He then led the man to his office leaving the door open. 'Have a seat. Feel free to use my desk as a resting place for what you brought with you.'
Justin leaped out of his chair and hugged the man. 'Jesse!!!! What are you doing here?!'
The blonde man glared ever so slightly. 'You're on the clock, and I am here about a case, cousin.' He then looked at Harry. 'Well, I brought all sorts of documents for Sergeant Littell to look at since I didn't trust him to do the research on Court's past himself.'
Justin raised a brow at Jesse's lack of enthusiasm. 'You seem to be in a mood and a half.'
Harry coughed. 'So exactly what is all this, and who are you exactly in relation to the Winstrups?'
'I am Court Davison's stepson, Jesse O'Brien. The other Alpha there that night.'
Justin and Harry exchanged glances with each other. But it was Justin who spoke. 'Did you give a statement?'
'Yes, of course.'
Harry stood up, rage filling the air. He stormed over to the desk of Sergeant Littell's former partner and grabbed him by the collar of his uniform. 'Tell me why the bloody hell I am not aware there was a second alpha involved in my case? Where's his statement?! Did you get rid of evidence to make Sgt Littell look better?!'
'I am guessing that means you don't have my reports then. Or at least accurate ones.'
'What?'
'My reports mentioned Dr. O'Brien, sir. Now would you please put me down, before you get in trouble?'
Harry grumbled but set the officer down. 'Track down those re-- wait did you say Dr. O'Brien? As in the University's top reproductive doctor?'
'That's him. Why?'
'Personal. Anyway track down those reports.' He returned to his office, and just took a seat. 'My apologies Dr. O'Brien. It seems that in the transfer, any mention of there being a second alpha disappeared. I confirmed though that we should have evidence of your presence there, and we are tracking down what happened to everything.'
Jesse growled and exited, leaving his business card on Harry's desk.
