The Unexpected

Solarious P.O.V.

When word had gotten back to me that these pathetic beings were able to perfect an antidote to counteract specimen X I could honestly say I was surprised. The fact they were able to do it from scratch and so quickly without their brainiac at the helm. I had clearly underestimated them.  I couldn't help the devious smirk that crept onto my lips.

If they think they had won an advantage over me they were sorely mistaken. I am more than a one-trick pony. The great conqueror Solarious doesn't just depend on one thing to accomplish all his wishes.

"Neese, get in here, " I sounded on the intercom.

Running in he smooths his black hair back out of his eyes. Straightening his posture to me he eyes me up and down.

"Yes my Lord?" He replies bowing his head.

"It has come to my attention that even with the death of that useless scientist Roland, they were able to perfect the cure."

Neese lifts his head and his eyes go wide. He has shock written across his pale face. Then a flash of anger replaces his expression.

"My Lord that is impossible, he was the only one capable of that, there is no say that they effected it when Roland failed the first time-"

"They did Neess, they perfected the cure to counteract specimen X and they are mass producing it as we speak! Your underestimation of them, knows no bounds, for a fool like you to have been with them!!!! You are as useless as Roland was to them!"

I grab Neese by his throat and hoist him off the ground. Slowly I  squeeze my hand and feel his pulse against my scaly hand. He grabs on to my wrist, his eyes illuminate with a plea for mercy.

"You have failed me, and for that, you must be punished!" I shout tossing him across the room into the metal wall behind him. A large dent is created as he falls flat to the floor.

" Please Lord Solarious, let me make this right."

I debate back and forth in my head if I should continue to spare him or if I should decide to do myself a favor and kill this useless lifeform.  He crawls over to me on his hands and knees and bows at my feet, not daring to make eye contact.

"You have forty eight hours, to figure out a solution to this problem. If nothing has been resolved to my satisfaction, consider this the end of your pathetic life."

I kick him away from my feet and turn my back from him. Either way he will be dead soon, I have no use for weaklings like him in my new world order.

Neese P.O.V.

I have never ran for my life as quickly as I did just now. Master Solarious was certainly a man of his word, and now my life depended on the death of the rest of that group of arrogant ingrates. This time I won't let him down.

My body aches from my back down every motion hurting more and more with every small step I take. My throat was beginning to swell. The beating he had just given me will be nothing compared to the pain I will endure if I fail him. Yes, he will kill me but not before I tortured so badly that I beg for death to greet me.

Entering my quarters I began to pack some of my gear that I would need on my mission. I had to be prepared this time around. I may have succeeded in killing Roland but the others were sure to be more of a challenge.

I exhaled as I zipped my duffle bag and flung it over my shoulder. Stepping out into the hallway I closed my door behind me and walked away not looking back.

General Adkins P.O.V.

"We have successfully completed around a hundred thousand units, within another two weeks we can add an additional hundred thousand to that count."

The Elders hummed in agreement. Getting the cure to this stage of development is definitely an achievement.

"See to it that nothing halts production, " SoZu replies.

I bow in respect and turn away to take my leave from their chambers. Nothing can get in the way of all we have accomplished. Solarious cannot win.

Z P.O.V.

One by one the boxes that hold the key to defeating Solarious are loaded into the Luxious. So far we have a hundred thousand vials ready to go. Soon we will have enough to build a whole army of beings capable of helping fight against Solarious. By making everyone immune to specimen X he won't have an advantage over us any longer.

My jaw tightens just at the thought of his name. For so long I have waited to bring him down. To make him feel the pain to hurt more than I ever have. He killed my Estelle and he will die for all of his crimes.

"Z, are you alright?" I hear Emily's soft voice behind me.

Shaking the thoughts away from my mind I offer her my best smile I can muster.

"I'm okay"

She raises her right eyebrow at me and eyes me up and down for a minute.

"Well alright then." She replies before carrying on.

Since Roland's death and the explosion, Emily hasn't seemed to be herself. Normally she would argue with me and not stop until I gave in and told her what was wrong. But not now, she went on about her business. Emily seems more focused and determined than ever before. Even concealing her emotions and locking them away. I only hope she opens back up once we kill Solarious.

"She has gotten so emotionless you'd think her a cyborg."

I look up to see Natasha setting a box down creating another row for a new stack to begin.

"Emily is focused, " I reply.

Natasha shakes her head.

" Focused and emotionally disconnected are two different things. If she was focused I wouldn't be worried. But, Z even you see the difference, don't kid yourself."

"We don't have time for feelings, all that matters right now is ending this war before anyone else gets hurt." My response is cold

" Then you are no better than him, Solarious is as cruel as the next no heart, no compassion for anyone but himself. And you are proving time and time again that you Z are just as bad." Natasha shoves past me bumping my shoulder.

How dare her say that.  Solariousand I  are not alike, we are far from being the same. For Natasha to say that is nothing more than a child throwing a tantrum.

Emily P.O.V.

Walking past Z, I knew she could sense I was not my normal self. I have grown frustrated with her and how she pretends she is fine all the time. Whenever I try to get her to talk about what she is thinking she shuts me out and therefore I have begun to shut everyone else out as well. Roland's death certainly didn't make it any easier to stay emotionally attached. I lost a very dear friend that day.

Roland did a lot for us and if not for him we wouldn't have perfected the cure needed to take the fight to Solarious. Whether anyone realizes it completely or not, we owe the future we will have to him.

"Hey, wait up, " Natasha's voice echoes behind me. Her footsteps gently tapped the rocky surface of the ground.

I stop in place and turn around to face her. Natasha pats my shoulder and offers a slight smile.

"You okay?"

I shake my head in response looking away from her gaze. I try to keep my eyes on the horizon and avoid looking back at Natasha.

"You say that, but your unspoken language says something else," Natasha adds.

"I'm..im fine, really" I kick some of the dirt beneath my feet.

"Emily, you know you can talk to me about anything right?" Her eyes are filled with concern.

"Yes I do, thank you-" I stop mid-sentence.

I feel my throat begin to burn and my body heats up. Falling to my hands and knees I start coughing profusely. Unable to even get a small gasp of air. A warm thick liquid forms in my mouth and pours out like a running faucet.

If Natasha is trying to talk to me I can't hear anything but the sounds of loud ringing, it gets louder and louder. My vision begins to blur. I still can't breathe and the coughing hasn't ceased. My chest is tight and my arms are getting numb. And then….nothing.
