Stuck in the world of humans, non human creatures are forced into simulations known as 'Dreams'. These subjects, called 'lucid dreamers',  use abilities that awaken in these  'dreams' to "kill" each other for the entertainment of humans watching around the world. They must keep up their 'popularity' with the humans; if not, they are to be pitted against each other in a different type of Dream, called apnea, but these dreams have real consequences; only the winner gets a second chance at survival.
