Oswin Seeks The Truth

Why the hell did Mary's aunt send me to this world? There's no sign of Gabe anywhere I look. Just what the heck is going on? Did she lie to me? When I get back to my home in this world, I just sit down on the couch, feeling defeated.

"What's the matter?" asked Wendy, coming out of the kitchen.

"I told you how I ended up here, didn't I?" I asked.

"Yeah," she said, "and at first, I found it hard to believe."

"The thing is... I never found him." I said.

"But he's dead, isn't he?" said Wendy, "So it makes sense that you wouldn't find him here."

"I guess, but the person who sent me here sensed his soul here." I responded.

"How do you know they weren't lying to you?" asked Wendy.

"Someone else has asked me this before."

"You didn't tell anyone else that you're from another world, did you?"

"No, of course not."

"Good. I wouldn't want you freaking anyone out like that."

"I haven't really made any progress so I'm starting to believe I really was lied to."

"Well, even if that's the case, did you learn anything interesting?"

"Oh, that reminds me! There's this girl..."

"You're interested in a girl?"

"I-it's not like that."

"Then what is it like?"

"It's just her hair and eye color are the same color as my friend's."

"...What color is her hair?"

"Does it matter?"

"Depends on the color."

"White."

"W-white?"

"Is something wrong?"

"White haired magic users are usually very powerful and can use just about any type of magic when most people can only use one or two."

"Is that how it works?"

"White-haired magic users are usually very smart too. There's a high chance that she actually knows something about your friend."

"But she told me she doesn't know him!"

"Have you ever considered that she either just doesn't know his name or she just can't tell you for some reason?"

"Like, she's hiding something from me?"

"That may be the case."

"I-it's not right to pry."

"Still, you should probably ask for her help."

"She did say she'd talk to me if she learned anything."

"But what happens if she's the only one who can tell you anything?"

"I... um..."

"You need to go talk to her again."

As I thought about it some more, I realized it really was odd. Here in this world, I met somebody with the same eye color and hair as my best friend. I thought it was just a coincidence, but maybe it's a sign. Maybe it means she'll help me find him. I'll just have to talk to her again.

"I need to talk to you after school." said Oswin.

"Oh, okay." I said, "What about?"

"I'll tell you when school is over." he answered.

"Are you gonna confess your love!?" asked Rose, excitedly.

"It's nothing like that." said Oswin, "This is something that only she can help with."

With that, he walked away.

"What was that about?" asked Rose.

"I honestly have no idea." I said.

"But you're stilling going to talk to him, right?" she asked.

"Of course." I said.

"Are you going to tell him?" asked Rose.

"I... don't know." I responded.

"You can't keep him in the dark forever." said Rose.

"I know." I said.

The end of the day came much quicker than I thought it would. I had no idea what it was that Oswin wanted to talk to me about. I met him on the roof like usual, and he had a serious expression on his face. This made me worry about what he was going to say next.

"You're the only one who can help me find him." he said.

"What?" was my response.
