Emotion punched her square in the gut.
"Oh, God." She whispered. "Haven." More than a year had passed since her friend's disappearance, but Philly PD hadn't found a damn thing to move their case forward.
A year since her friend went missing. A year since her reassignment to Houston. A year of waiting for the phone to ring or Carlson to call her into his office and tell her they'd found Haven. Mari wasn't local Philly PD so she didn't have jurisdiction, but that hadn't stopped her from calling every week to see if there were any new leads. None. Nothing. No one knew where Haven went, what happened to her, or who could've been involved in her disappearance. She just vanished from the face of the earth right there from the fairgrounds parking lot.
Haven had been under Mari's watch, her protection, and now she was gone. Probably dead-just a rotting corpse in a back alley.
Mari shuddered at the image and groaned at the new pain it produced.
