Chapter 84

Mari couldn't stop pacing.

"So what you're saying is this goddess, Ohni, and her sisters are some sort of cosmic task masters who are holding your soul hostage until you do their bidding?" She couldn't keep the disbelief or rage from her voice.

"Something like that, yeah," Perez answered with a flippant tone Mari couldn't fathom. Was he totally out of touch with the reality of his situation, from the position he put her in to complete his task?

"And in order to complete your second task-the first task you won't even tell me about because of some dumb self-imposed rule to keep it to yourself-you had to drag me from my apartment in 2014 to this dust hole in 1856?" She could hear the hitch in her voice, but she couldn't stop now.

"Yes." Again with the callous, uncaring, flippant tone. If the man had an ass, she'd kick it.
