The prequel to the Amaranthine series tells the story of Patrick and Michael, how they got tangled into Claudius' web, and their valiant fight to escape.

When Patrick's missing brother returns, he brings a world of darkness. Turned into a vampire against his will, Michael is the coven's whipping boy. When Patrick tries to help, he's claimed as a slave who spends his weekends preparing victims, scooping ashes, and falling prey to the vampires' twisted desires.

There's only so much hell he can take. When vampires from a warring coven offer sanctuary in exchange for cooperation, Patrick agrees. What he thought would be a few months drags into a long smear of nightmares and, though he fights for hope and freedom, the cost of victory may be more than he bargained for.


Brothers of Darkness

Patrick had only dirty clothes to put back on, but when he walked into the bedroom Troy demanded he remove them. Patrick took a step backwards and shook his head. 


The vampire rose threateningly from his place on the bed. "I gotta give you two black eyes? I said I liked a little fight, but there's a line. Now take your goddamn clothes off and get over here."


Memories of the night before jumped out in sharp relief, and Patrick shuddered. Troy was right, there was a line, and that was too much. He shook his head and backed toward the bathroom. The bald vampire blinked in surprise, and Patrick took the opportunity to dodge inside and slam the door. There was no lock, so he ripped down the towel rod and tried to jam the door shut. Troy rammed into it with enough force to knock Patrick back and send the towel rod clattering.
