Chapter 56

They hauled Katelina's limp body out of the backseat and across the unkempt yard. Wet weeds slapped at Patrick's bare skin and crickets screeched. Just as when Michael had stalked them, Patrick felt that invisible presence that made the hair stand up on the back of his neck.

"What do you want?" The voice was Des'.

Patrick hurried on to the porch where he laid Katelina down. "We need Jorick."

"What for?" Michael cried. "What's he going to do?"

Des stepped out of the house to peer down at the woman. "You want him to heal her?"

"Heal her? How?" Patrick blinked.

Des cocked an incredulous eyebrow. "Vampires can heal humans by giving them some of their own blood. I assumed you knew."

Patrick thought of New York, of Troy shoving his bleeding arm into his mouth, of the way the bruises and the bites disappeared.

The memory left him sick.
