The prequel to the Amaranthine series tells the story of Patrick and Michael, how they got tangled into Claudius' web, and their valiant fight to escape.

When Patrick's missing brother returns, he brings a world of darkness. Turned into a vampire against his will, Michael is the coven's whipping boy. When Patrick tries to help, he's claimed as a slave who spends his weekends preparing victims, scooping ashes, and falling prey to the vampires' twisted desires.

There's only so much hell he can take. When vampires from a warring coven offer sanctuary in exchange for cooperation, Patrick agrees. What he thought would be a few months drags into a long smear of nightmares and, though he fights for hope and freedom, the cost of victory may be more than he bargained for.


Brothers of Darkness

Patrick made it to the restaurant on time. Dinner went well, so they went to a bar afterwardsone across town that had better decor and better clientele. The bartender seemed to know Katelina, and kept looking at them. Finally, Patrick asked, "What's his deal?"


Katelina sipped her margarita. "That's Brad. He's Sarah's boyfriend. She's probably paying him to report the details. I'm surprised she's not hiding in the plants to spy, too."


Patrick choked. "She's dating a bartender, but she tells you what to do?" Though, at least bartending was a legitimate job with a normal paycheck.


"Brad's okay. Not sleazy or anything. And she's over protective. She thinks I need her to take care of me." Katelina finished her drink and noisily set the glass on the table. She waved at Brad, who made her a new one. "I hope you don't mind, but I suggested we come here so he could examine you. Then he can tell Sarah you're not a psycho and we can all move on."
