Friday, July 26th

With Troy's threat fresh on his mind, Patrick knew he couldn't go back to Oren's. So, the next day, he went to the store and filled up a cart with locks. Money was tight, but it was worth it. Or was it? Would they really hold the monsters out? He doubted it, and left the cart abandoned in the aisle.

Troy's words haunted Patrick. The vampire painted a picture of finality that he knew in his heart was true. They were fighting a losing battle; slogging from one day to the other in a macabre game of pretend. He and Michael were going to die. And when they did, what would happen to Katelina?

I just need more time.

July spiraled to an end and August came hot and muggy. Patrick lived in a void of fear and paranoia. When he thought his terror had reached its epoch, some strange sound, offhanded comment, or nightmare would send him spiraling farther into the black abyss.
