Chapter 141: Bren - In the Dark, Part 4

When the elevator stopped, he hopped out and headed to the Executioners' office. A guard sat behind a counter, terrified eyes on everything but Bren. The Executioner huffed. This was all so much bother and a waste of time. He missed the old days when it was just Malick, before the other council members had been sent by Munich. Malick hadn't required piles of paperwork . An Executioner did their job, then went home. They didn't even have to check back in for easy jobs. But not now. Now Executioners had to live in the citadel, and report every time they breathed.

Exasperated with the guard's cringing silence, Bren demanded, "You got my text?"

"Y-yes, sir. II need to know which, um, which of the other two are still alive. So I can submit it to the database department and they can update-"

"He didn't tell me his name," Bren snapped impatiently. He'd rather be in his quarters, showering away his victims blood, then looking for Senya.
