The flames consumed him, turning him into a charred reflection of who he once was. He couldnt move, he could barely draw the breath needed to scream. As the pounds of flesh turned to ash the shadow watched in anticipation.
"Im going to die here. Im going to die at the hands of something I never knew existed." Alistair thought to himself. "I can't die, I wont".
The flames clung to Alistair's body and began to grow brighter. The shadow smiled, "Boy, we will meet again in due time". The shadow turned around and with a finger, cut the air in front of him. The shadow walked through were the cut wouldve been and disappeared in a shower of purple flames.
Alistair sat up drenched in sweat and screaming. He felt around his body to make sure everything was where it was supposed to be. He let out a sigh of relief after he made sure his twig and berries were still in good shape. He looked around his room and noticed the early morning sun just barely peeking through his window.
Alastair muttered to himself "Was that all a dream? The pain felt all to real to be a dream".
Moments later his roomate burst into the room. "Oh my God are you ok, I heard a scream" his roommate stood in the doorway with nothing but panties and a large shirt which just barely covered her backside. She realized Alastair had decided to sleep in the nude and turned the corner till she was out of sight in the hallway. She blushed uncontrollably.
"For fucks sake Elena, you can at least knock!" Alastair covered himself with his blanket and couldn't help but feel ashamed. She was his roommate but he didn't see her that way. Its not like she wasn't attractive, she had a mouth-watering figure and soft features which could melt any man or woman.
Elena bit her bottom lip before speaking "I heard you scream so I came to make sure you were all good, you could've woken up the dead with lungs like those". She looked down as she spoke and realized the attire she had on. "You better forget what you saw, if you say anything ill kick your ass!" Elena blushed more and shuffled to her room quickly and slammed the door.
Alistair paid little attention after she left, instead he continued to examine his body for any proof of the purple flames. He hadn't noticed anything and just chalked it up to a dream. He searched for his favorite pair of running shorts so he could start with his daily ritual.
"Damn, I can't find my shorts anywhere. I thought I fell asleep with them on." Alistair shrugged it off and grabbed a different pair before heading downstairs. Upon reaching the bottom he glanced at the couch and shuddered at the thought of his dream. At the thought of the purple flames he started to feel a growing warmth within him. He brushed it off thinking it was his imagination.
Elena was hot on his heels when he decided to stop. She jumped on his back which forced him to walk forward from her momentum. She jumped off as quickly as she had jumped on. "You would make for a lousy ride" she said
"Thanks, you didn't pay the toll so you got what you paid for." Alastair said smiling warmly to mock her.
Alistair stepped out into the frigid fall air and made sure to shut the door behind him. As he made his way to his usual running point he noticed the weather was warmer then the forecast predicted.
