Chapter 30

This is a nightmare...

The short sword was unsteady in my hand, fluttering over Waelon's face. He smiled every time I stabbed at him. A murderous glint nesting in his eyes, like he had a secret that held power over me. And with every lunge, he sidestepped, knocking over more random items in the overstuffed room.

Full force, I brought down the blade vertically cutting nothing but the wind. Waelon dodged it clumsily, much to my irritation, and his shoulders brushed into a tall raggedy wooden shelf full of black water jars. One by one they descended and smashed open on the ground, fireworks of glass, and inside them were human body parts. The very first one to catch my eyes was a soggy human heart, wine colored, bits of red peeking out. What kind of place is this?

"You...you already have body parts?"

"In my defense, that heart is over three moons old," he charmed back, licking the top row of his teeth viscerally.
