Chapter 23

Gamon chuckled as well. They briefly took in the serene moment and trekked back towards the mail carrier griffin. As they got closer, they noticed the smell of rotting flesh in the air. Something was just killed. Cassius began walking cautiously. Gamon scanned the area around him, but saw nothing. However, when he faced forward, the demon appeared before him. It smiled wider than the limits of its cheeks, like a sideways crescent moon. It then vanished into dust that blew into the leaves, rejoining the ether.

Cassius used his nose to draw closer and discovered red stained feathers appearing on the ground. Gamon heard faint footsteps on thin breaking branches, but now he didn't trust his instincts. The lingering of the demon had left him frazzled. Cassius screamed out.

"Gamon!"
