Chapter 57: Bloodstream, Part 1

Carmella insisted on frying French fried potatoes and half an hour later the family sat down to eat together for the first time in what felt like years.

After the first bite of burger Carmella stopped worrying about the mayonnaise turning bad or if the cheese had gotten too melted. She slapped the tomato, lettuce and onions back onto it and devoured it.

All she could do was grin with cheeks puffed out with burger as her eyes rolled in contentment. Bilal chuckled at her. Raj wasn't quite as impressed and ended up removing the bread, lettuce and tomatoes and licking off the mayo and ketchup mixture. He ate part of the hamburger patty but enjoyed his mother's French fries much more.

"There are more gifts." Bilal said between bites of his burger. He liked it a great deal but not nearly as much as he liked Carmella's Sunday fried chicken.

"More?" She asked.

"Yes back in the field. I couldn't carry the other items. We'll need the trucks to bring them back."
