Chapter 28: Fake Mom

After school, DeMarcos and Biscuit got into a fight. Teachers were dragging them apart as I stepped onto the school bus to go home. Bernice talked about it and talked about it until she noticed that I wasn't responding.

"You really don't care about those two?" she asked.

"I got Tupac" was my response, and I was sticking to it. It was good that he was only ten or eleven years old right now. It meant that it would be years before he would become famous. Bernice changed the subject reluctantly but began talking about something equally as distasteful.

"Don't forget, we're going to Fast-time Freddie's after school Friday."

I got off the school bus at my stop and trudged home in deep thought. I was in such deep thought that I walked right past Bill's car.

"Kenya!" he called, got out the car, and jogged toward me. We walked to the house together.

"What's wrong?" he asked.
