Chapter 37: At Last, Part 1

When Mama got home, she was still pissed.

I could tell because she didn't ask either of us if we had finished our homework. She began dinner of Rice-A-Roni with hamburger meat and mushy canned green peas. I wished that we were talking so that I could have explained that frozen green peas were the way to go, but there were more important barriers to cross than inedible food.

Bill didn't complain while we ate, but I could only guess that he was "taking another one for the team," He could have been at home eating filet mignon or lamb chops.

Mom didn't speak as she picked at her food while watching the news.

I am so sorry, I kept thinking as she sat there looking tired. I am more of a hassle than your drug-addicted son.
