What they needed to do was lost in the gurgling maelstrom rising about her. Actually, the maelstrom didn't just rise about her. It heaved. Was she drowning? Was that why she couldn't make out a word that was being said? She prised an eye open. Then she prised the other.

"My God. Susan?" At least she hoped it was Susan as opposed to a gurgling lump of dough. "What are you let me lie down again. I'm going to be "

"Oh, madam, thank God. Thank God."

That she was sick? On a heaving wooden floor?

"Madam, I wouldn't trouble you, but--"

"Please stop shaking me, for mercy's sake. I'm not a dog's bone and I don't feel very well."

"But, madam, you have to wake up. We've been kidnapped."

"Kidnapped?" Couldn't Susan have said so after Fury sat up, striking her head off a wooden beam. It did nothing for what was in it. Her head that was, although the beam probably had as big a dent.
