Paul, Sarah and Mark road in near silence on the way back to the settlement. Paul was too busy worrying about Kathrine to be much of a conversationalist while Mark was trying to wrap his head around the fact that three, now two, Fallen Angels wanted to kill his daughter. His daughter was very important. When he found out he wasn't God's champion, he felt a little disappointed but mostly relieved. Having his daughter take up that position, his anxiety was ten times as bad. It was bad enough having to look after a daughter that he hadn't seen since she was a teenager. But having one that was going to save the world was a whole different set of worries.
