Isaac Hess lives in Greensboro, North Carolina with his family, three dogs, and evil cat. Royce forced his eyes open, trying to remember a pleasant dream already gone from his memory. He felt groggier than he ever had before. He figured the painkillers in his system must have done their job.


Hermes hooked his arms under Royce's shoulders, dragging him out of bed. Royce tried to stand once they were in the hallway, and Hermes let him, though he still led Royce briskly forward.


"What'sgoing on?" Royce asked. His mouth felt like it was full of wet cement.
