Chapter 57

"What do you really want, Madeline?"

His fingers worked slowly to emphasis his words.

Frowning, she signed back."What do you mean?"

"I'm talking about us.Do we have a future together?"

"Of course we do."Maddy sat back in her café chair.

Despite their reluctance to be seen together, she insisted that they meet in a public place, safely away from his kisses and caresses that always managed to overwhelm her because of their intoxicating and seductive draw.So she decided on Easter brunch at the Woodlands Inn, a place far away from their normal haunts and situated south of Alexandria, Virginia.

"But we have to be careful," she continued."I'm being tried for murder next week.I can't afford even the slightest suspicion.I need to be transparent." She gave a little gurgle of a laugh."As if I could fade awaybut my attorney says I must be open and honest at all costs."
