Maddy slept through most of the day. When her stomach growled, she drank more soda. Lying around in bed made her tired. There was absolutely nothing to do in the small room with the walls closing in on her. She had pleaded a number of times into the mirror since the first time, begging to be released, for someone to bring food, but no one ever showed. Maybe they had forgotten about them?
At some point during the day, she opened the curtains at the window. She usually never saw anything out there, no traffic or anyone about, but this time she saw a police cruiser slowly drive by, a pair of officers looking intently out the windows. She screamed at them and pounded on the window so hard she hoped it would break the glass. But the police officers gave no indication of seeing or hearing her. She was on her own.
