Garrett made a trip to the local police station for assistance. Sheriff Spicer filled out the paperwork as Garrett supplied him with descriptions of both Maddy and her missing car.
"Have you checked with her friends? Have any of them seen her since last night?" Sheriff Spicer asked.
"I called and talked to everyone I could think of, but no one has seen her since her mother's funeral."
"Is there any possibility she could have returned to her home in Virginia?" the sheriff asked as he wiped his fingers across his forehead.
"No way. I'm telling you we had a date planned for last night. She wouldn't stand me up. We've been close friends since grade school." Garrett rubbed his hands together and then placed them on the desk in front of him.
Spicer peered over the top of his glasses. "So you're the last person to see her alive."
Befuddled, Garrett shrugged. "I would have no way of knowing."
