Her heart pounded in her ears. She rolled onto her side but still heard the beating. An attempt to sit up reminded her where she was. The thumping continued. Where is it coming from? The door? The wall? She couldn't tell exactly. She sat up and slid to the floor, grabbing the bed for support.
She went to the door and began hammering with her fists; she tried turning the knob again. Nothing. When her fists hurt, she leaned against the door and worked the duct tape loose from her mouth. She got one corner lifted and then began the painful process of pulling the rest off inch by inch. Finally, relieved, she breathed deeply.
Then she screamed.
